The best way to protest is to do something they would understand i.e. do not buy or subscribe to the paper - if enough people do it they will understand that f**ker :emoticon-0148-yes:

If there's ever been a case of something being blown out of all proportion, then this is it.

He's a Newcastle supporter and this has happened many years before he was offered the job.
Did people expect anything different? Can people say they have never spoke this way about Newcastle?
You would be in the minority, if so.

A Newcastle supporter writes up report on a Sunderland match. Is it really that much of a big deal?
He says he'll be unbiased in his reports, I believe him. Especially after all this has come out and he knows every word will be scrutinised.

We all generally watch our games, anyway. He's hardly going to write a report with the words 'scummy mackem bastards' in. I would just read the report and put the paper down, personally.

    Each to their own, though.

I have posted my thoughts on various SAFC related Facebook pages as well as my own and it has went haywire with scores of shares and comments: some from people who advertise regularly in the Echo who are going to threaten to pull the plug if he remains..

To be honest, it's not the fact he supports Newcastle imo. It's that the paper couldn't foresee the problems and didn't vet his social media The man himself did't have enough brain cells to to think, "hmm, I better make sure my social media accounts are appropriate', something that in this day and age is common practice for people going for jobs in any field. Then there 's Transparent apology and wall of denial as he doesn't even have the balls to stand by him own words. Of course he hates the club, It's natural as a Newcastle fan, so why lie.

If I was a Sunderland lad I'd be annoyed, not at the bloke applying for the Job, but the whole way it's been handled by what's supposed to be a town institution yet they print the thing in Sheffield and seem to be doing everything possible to detach itself from the people they write for. I get why the people of Sunderland are hacked off like. One institution has sold out and are now mindlessness making decisions which link to the other institution of the town, the football club.

It's the echo who's dropped the bollock really imo, and it will hurt a lot people from the area. People are proud and will defend their town.

I'm not questioning that the people of Sunderland aren't proud of where they come from. I just believe it's being made out a lot worse than it actually is.

I wouldn't be taking it to heart, if I was from Sunderland. No way. I'd accept his apology. How are the people making all this fuss any better than him, when they can't forgive something he said donkeys years ago and won't give him a chance?

He seems like a normal bloke who likes to give it big licks over his rivals. I'm sure he's professional enough to recognise the difference between his private and work life, and he'll do a good job.

I wonder how many of these people on here would think like this, if it was a member of their family being hounded like this and potentially put out of a job, when he has a wife and kids to support?

Frankly, I find the idea of trying to put a man out of work, ****ing disgusting. It's the lowest of the low.

I'm not saying you are mate, I'm just saying I suspect it's because they're proud of where they come from.

I'll just add that I think the Echo making him issue the apology instead of themselves is ridiculous and have pretty much thrown the bloke under a bus themselves.

What a load of bollocks !
Sorry '83, but this is a ****ing Skunk who openly admits that he hates S.A.F.C. and us fans (yes us) and he's applied for and been given the job of reporting about our club (including more than just our matches) and he tries to appease us by saying that it's just banter :emoticon-0101-sadsm

He even tries to use his children as a tool to make us feel sorry for him, assuming that we're stupid enough to believe that he's a canny lad really <doh>

He's obviously just a twat that applied for a job that is completely inappropriate for him, hoping that nobody would check his credentials . . . . as an absolute ****ing arsehole as far as our club is concerned.

He's taking the piss out of S.A.F.C. and us . . . . and he's laughing all the way to his bank account 'cos he's (up to now) getting away with it <grr>

    He's a **** :emoticon-0120-doh:

He's a Newcastle supporter, hardly likely to declare his love for Sunderland, is he?

You are just foaming that he's a Newcastle supporter. He has talked the same way each and every one of us has spoken over the years. Why are you judging him and saying he's not a canny lad? You have spoke the same way about Newcastle, as have I. So that means me and you are not canny lads. By your reckoning <ok>

I read it like he was genuine and explaining his family as to a reason why he has grown up. That's fair enough, in my eyes.

He's come out and apologised, also he has explained himself. Whether people choose to believe that or not, is their choice. At least he's been man enough to do that. He's shining head and shoulders above the people who can't let go of a few throw away comments, many years ago.

Like I say, putting somebody out of a job is ****ing disgusting and it's done by scummy people.

I feel so strongly about this that I'm currently sending an email to the Echo showing my support for him and telling them to ignore the few people who criticise his appointment, because they don't speak for all.

I don't know if you realise it was as near as December 2015 that he was slagging us off, but is trying to say it was six years ago when he was much younger. I realise what you mean by putting him out of a job, but there again that could mean one of our own supporters in the journalist trade taking his place.
