Having been out yesterday to watch thd game with my brother, followed by a night of boxing, it's interesting reading back over the 'live' match comments on here. Lots of negativity. We must have been watching a different game. What I saw was us looking solid, working as a team, rarely looking troubled by anything Derby could offer and creating more genuine chances than them. It might not have been pretty, but let's get real. This was a well fought away win. Overall we bossed it and took three points. That's what it takes in this division, so it's good to see that we can grind out wins like this. Some good individual performances, but it was the teamwork that shone through. I know he only came on as a sub, but I was impressed by Yedlin's workrate. we do need more presence up front and I'd like to see him try Mitro in this league. HTL.
All you say is true but Derby are clart and we have played some good ish teams so far. I don't think they will do well at all this season. A team that will score goals will do better against us. Look don't get me wrong, this was a classic away graft performance and i take that all day. But we have not looked like a standout team yet this season. And we might not but our midfield needs to start controlling games.
We did enough to win, they could have got back into it but the crucial thing is they didn't. Had the second come earlier it would have settled everyone's nerves.
Don't get the negativity at all. It's the Championship and it's about results. We were solid, looked comfortable and most importantly, we were organised and disciplined. The players and Benitez cannot win with some people. We made a big hoohah in the past about 'demanding a team that tries.' Those players are giving 110% this season. We are winning games without really having to step out of 2nd/ 3rd gear and with each game are getting better and better. Terrific yesterday.
With so many new faces, we are unlikely to be a standout team yet in terms of creativity. But we wlready look more solid and disciplined than last year and once thd new guys havd had time to settld in and gel together, I think the quality will improve too. I'm happy so far, 4 wins from 6 is good and the it was important get points on the board early. The flowing football can come oncd we truly in our stride.
It's still early but it's looking like the last time we were in this division with many unspectacular, workmanlike performances where we keep it tight at the back and nick goals though our extra bit of quality rather than tearing teams to shreds.
Maybe I'm being a bit demanding, but I'd like to see us give the keepers a bit more to do. But we can't complain with the work ethic. Rafa is doing it.
This for me - can't think that we've really bossed a game through midfield yet (possibly Reading) - got to be happy with performances so far however. Especially given the changes to the squad and the time taken for everyone to bed in. Think we'll have a much better idea come the end of September.
Solid, nothing more nothing less. We can get more expansive if we manage to create some breathing space between us and the rest. After the first two games we have done exactly as we should.
I'm amazed at the amount of goals we are scoring through set-plays. Does Yedlin's goal count as a set piece goal or do you class it from open play. It sort of came from a short corner. Anyone know the answer?
I would argue that it was open play ..as the set piece was...stick it in the corner and don't f-ing lose it Shelvey was doing just that till he spotted Perez and Yedlin ... No idea, mind ..what the 'legal' definition of a set piece is though
