Hilarious? Or actually annoying to the point that you feel you have to deflect your feelings by commenting here to let everyone know you're definitely not annoyed... in fact you're so not annoyed that you really ram home the message in the complete opposite direction and let everyone know you're actually in fits of hilarity? #notannoyedatall
It's only match one, there's a lot of football to come yet. It was only a one goal defeat, NOT a disastrous score.
Crap result but enjoyed going...currently standing outside Wembley Park tube station...and there is a decent atmosphere even though we've been here for 30 mins so far Thought Kane was pretty poor tonight and wasteful. Son was average and Lamela and Eriksen were very disappointing. Dembele was rusty but did well and Jannsen made a difference. We began to panic after 75 minutes instead of keeping the pressure on which allowed them to break up play and we kept losing our rhythm. I think it's a lesson we needed to learn and hopefully we will do so quickly. One question I have is ... was Lloris beaten at his near post for the 2nd cos from where I looked he was?
I wouldn't say hilarious, but there is a whiff of irony about getting trolled by one set of fans who were knocked out 2 years ago by the same team, suffering a heavier home defeat, and another set of fans who won't be watching any European football at all this season. If it were City and Leicester, I think the point would be better made and better received.
Defoe lost his form and he went. The forwards have been absent since the start of the season CK. There was something in BBC gossip about Spurs going for another striker, I think they should.
Nice attempt at dispelling the notion that Arsenal fans are more interested in the results of our matches than those of the club they allegedly support...
There is only one other forward and he is playing in his first season in the PL. It is no coincidence that Kane's form dips alarmingly when Dembele is absent. The real worry in all of this is not our 'ineffective' forwards, rather Pochettino's inability to concoct anything even close to resembling a 'Plan B' for when Dembele is out. That plan is apparently along the lines of 'let's just make do', which is well and good against the Palace's and Stokes of this world, but put that up against quality opposition and we will drop points regularly and predictably. We aren't wealthy enough to ditch players every time they hit a dip in form and bring in new ones. And for the record, Defoe didn't leave because of a dip in form. The club wanted to keep him on but he opted to end his career somewhere where he would get regular football.
To talk about selling our players is a massive over reaction to the start of a season where we are unbeaten in the premier league and narrowly lost tonight
If you mean Kane - yes, but that has lots to do with the battering his confidence took over the summer as well as Dembele's absence. If you mean Defoe - it is almost impossible for an impact sub to suffer a 'dip in form' when said 'form' is only measured in increments of 15 minutes.
His form dipped from scoring 20+ PL goals two seasons running ?? Is there two seasons of Derfoe at Spurs that have been erased from my memory ??
Ok CK then let's see what Kane does with Dembele back. I meant Defoes form. If I'm wrong about Kane I'll hold my hands up.
Good result for us in the other group game. I expected Bayer to beat Moscow quite comfortably but the Russians held them to a valuable draw. Having 2 teams out ahead on 3 points wouldve made things tricky but as it stands- the group is wide open. Cheer up lads - Dembele's back
In fairness to Monaco, they played very efficiently and were resolute in their defence. I don't want to use Wembley as an excuse but playing at WHL would have been more difficult for Monaco. In all honesty, I couldn't pick out one Spurs player who played exceptionally well. Sissoko did fairly well in his 10 minutes and showed promising flashes of his ability despite losing the ball on one occasion. I think he will settle into the team quite well. Dembele looks rusty which is inevitable but it's certainly good to see him return. I thought Kane ought to have been substituted when Janssen came on rather than Lamela. But all is not lost, we just need to ensure we beat Monaco on the away fixture...which is doable if Spurs perform well.
I've already said there's still a lot of football to come Barney's but If I were Poch I'd play as many goal scoring midfielders as possible. I don't want to labour the point but Kane has scored I think three goals in the last 12 matches or something.
Just back in my hotel after the match. Very poor game from our boys. After we got a goal back and for the first ten minutes of the second half it looked very much that we would score again but it faded again after that. Great support from most of the crowd but some near me were criticising from about the second minute. I thought that Janssen worked hard in his short appearance and ought to start the Sunderland match. Dele only managed about four nutmegs and looked absolutely shattered well before the end.
Just back from the game and agree 100% with this. The ground is too big to get a wall of noise from all sides. It kind of rolls around the bowl and it ends up being very disjointed. I shouted myself hoarse, in any event, trying to get things going in Block A, to limited effect unfortunately. Whilst tonight's performance was poor, it is in keeping with our form generally this season. The 'press' is lacking. Our lack of pace, particularly without Rose tonight, was really evident. We seemed to want to be laborious when speed was required and 'try our luck' with flicks and threading balls through the eye of the needle when being a little more circumspect might have brought better results. Unlucky? Maybe but we just never got into them after the first few minutes and it had more than a little of the first half of the Young Boys away game from 6 years ago. Monaco have a decent coach who set them up well and the ref seemed to favour them but we can have no cause for complaint. We need to go there and do it back to them. Let's hope our next 2 games don't leave us with too much ground to make up. Harry Kane looks bereft of confidence and takes 2 touches where last season he would just play 'off the cuff'. I think Janssen deserves a start on Sunday with Moussa Dembele and Sissoko should get a half as well. Let's make sure we win that and re-group.
