Johnson hurting after Wednesday late show Head coach reflects on obvious turning point as City fall to dramatic defeat. Johnson "really hurting" after City let two-goal lead slip at Hillsborough Head coach praises first-half display but points to obvious turning point at 2-1 Tomlin's penalty miss was followed instantly by a red card for O'Neil as City lost momentum Lee Johnson admitted he was “really hurting” after City let a two-goal lead slip at Hillsborough. Johnson’s men were clinical in the first half, scoring twice through Tammy Abraham, and resolute when they needed to be to go in at the interval 2-0 up. Steven Fletcher pulled one back for the hosts, who were then reduced to ten men when Sam Hutchinson was dismissed for bringing down Marlon Pack in the box. When Lee Tomlin struck the post from the resulting penalty, the ball bounced out and Wednesday broke with a move halted when Gary O’Neil appeared to win the ball with a sliding tackle. Instead referee Darren Bond issued a second yellow card to the City skipper, and the home team drew level through Barry Bannan before Kieran Lee won it deep into stoppage time. “I think the turning point in the game is quite obvious – that’s not a secret to anybody,” said Johnson of the missed penalty and ensuing red card for O’Neil, speaking to Bristol City Player HD. “Gary O’Neil says he got a foot on the ball. I haven’t seen it yet so it’ll be interesting to see if he has or not. If he has, the referee has let us down. If he hasn’t, it was a good decision. “I know we’re a young side and this is probably part of the ups and downs, because we lost our leader when Gary went off, but I still think we’ve got to be tougher and harder. “I’m really hurting this evening, but we’ve got to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off. http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/mixed-emotions-for-johnson-3306229.aspx
Top striker in the division, 8 goals from 9 games, 2-0 up at half time and we lose 3-2, players made mistakes yes but the buck stops with the head coach, he may be hurting but I hope he reflects on some of his own decisions. We have scored 12 and scored against 11 times, 1 man is scoring all the goals and our defence is weak, changes must be coming and I hope the little man is taking the pain killers.
Make the changes Lee Fielding for O'Donnall Mathews for Little Ekstand for Flint. I'm giving Tomlin another go Saturday,but one more below performance then drop him. I really think we should give Paterson ago,he looked so lively at Rotherham. If fit i would get Engvall on the pitch alongside Tammy.
I think it's right to point out that it is a young team and nights like this are part of the learning curve - however they must learn from it
personally I think he was panicked into subbing Tomlin OK HE ONLY NEEDED 1 CARD for a ban but he is able to score goals .. and works with Abs .. Abs was then left high and dry so alternative ..... having made that statement .... brought on Smith for Brownhill after 70 mins . time to see how it settled down, then after this play it as needed.. you cant premeditate and say sub so and so for so and so until game time after 70 mins has given you clues ..... verdict Lee J was wrong
Watchout Lee the moaners are coming to get you, why I dont honestly know, for me he is doing a great job.
Redprintt would probably expect me to say this!! but I honestly think, so far, LJ is doing a decent job, in fact better than expected... Many wanted Nigel Pearson, not exactly set the world alight has he? He will make mistakes and for every game we lose or should have won, he will take most of the blame.......but for me, so far so good. Another dozen games will give an indication how far we've come..
To be fair, unless we are struggling badly and he's sacked, then the end of the season will give us a better picture of what we have/haven't achieved.
he is / dug out team are doing a good job..and we will all differ in our opinions of his " to date accomplishments" last season we averted relegation ..I think we would have had JP etc been in charge .. we went from a rigid 3-5-2 and with the same players picked up valuable points from top teams, and lee arrived to carry on the good work .. this season Lee is in the driving seat from scratch... better players? and toward my personal target of 14 points from 10 games is on schedule ..... but I do think, although it is retrospective to a degree made a couple of poor ...not really bad but maybe v poor substitute decisions... Golbourne for O'Neil ... MY FIRST INSTINCT BEFORE he subbed Tomlin was KS for Brownhill I think he is doing as well as could be expected
I hope 1For will understand but having good players at your disposal is massive. If Pep or Jose, the supposedly best, were in charge at Yeovil they'd have one enormous wake up call.
2015 -16 = L L D W L L D == 5 2016 17 = W W L L W D L == 10 POINTS OF COURSE HE IS FEELING HURT it could be 15 points and 4th more of this for the next 15 games = 20 points
Of course it helps, good that LJ & co made sure the mistakes made by SC was not repeated although by all accounts he had a similar budget at his disposal. Of course Leicester last season threw many theories miles up in the air and managed to achieve giddy heights without spending millions...Did we all know that Claudio Ranieri was such a great manager?? Me, Lineker and thousands had doubts!!
'SC was not repeated although by all accounts he had a similar budget' 1For - Not even you believe this !
Andre Grey, how much did we offer....... Also back in August last year......Stubborn I think is the word..........http://www.not606.com/threads/sc-wont-be-pressured.307019/ I think LJ's anticipation of what's required is a plus in regards to a good manager!
Being pragmatic, not as much as Burnley. Regarding accounts and budgets. The amount the FC can spend is increasing v decreasing massively under previous Managers/Coaches pre Cotterill.
1For - SC was a puppet on Lansdown's strings. He was told what and when to say. Lansdown was nearly caught out last season, and made sure we were after class ie Tammy as early as last May. He's spent millions on Magnusson, Tomlin and others and not just transfer fees. Lansdown has sanctioned salaries never heard of at AG. 'I think LJ's anticipation' Are you really telling me the fiscal support Lansdown has given Junior and Ashton is remotely near to SC's budget ? If you are, let's leave it there and agree to disagree.
Problem is, we don't know what budget was offered last season nor this, we don't know what SC asked for or what players he wanted, nor do we with LJ. It's a debate, but we are both guessing. However, If LJ becomes consistent in picking the wrong 11 or filling round holes with square pegs and we face a relegation battle with the players we have. Along with you (as I know you will..lol) I will be moaning, that he's not the right man in charge!
this is very much the case ..certain observations from other posters do indicate we are far from the perfect SaTURDAY afternoon "best scenario" we are getting there, lets not think we are going to set the league alight yet, we are but an ember that is awaiting that little bit of puff that will encourage the flame..... square pegs or round pegs not as bad last season .... but is there a modicum of doubt we may just need to sort the square from the round? I think there is but only very small
This makes me laugh We lost ONE GAME we should have won, and suddenly its the domino effect. Look, if you're having a boring life take a holiday in the Alps. All is good, and its a WORK IN PROGRESS !
