I know we all see these things differently, but at the start of the season the teams being tipped were Newcastle and ourselves and then Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton, Derby, Villa, Bristol City, QPR and Wolves. We're at least 3 points above all of those and tucked in behind the leaders. If you think Huddersfield and Barnsley are going to finish in the top two then fair enough, but I don't. If we had been offered 14 points from 7 games at the start of the season I'd have taken it. Now let's push on rather than fearing what other players will do to us!
We have been lucky to win a few games because we don't have a cardboard cut out of Ruddy and Naismith in the first 11. Why you would risk Mulumbo again at 2-0 god knows but our keeper Klose and Jacob won us this one
and of course Leicester couldn't win the PL. Not that I necessarily think that Huddersfield or Barnsley are going to finish in the top 2, but whose to say one of them won't finish in the top 6. As per my earlier post at this stage you can't just look at a teams position in the table, you've got to look who they've played. For example Brighton are 3 points behind us having played Huddersfield, Newcastle, Brentford, Derby, Reading, Forest & Rotherham. I'd much rather be in their position having played the teams they've played than in ours.
Well I'm not sure there's that much difference between Hughton and AN. Both talk the talk and seem to want to play free flowing attacking football until they come to Norwich and go to rat Sh1t.
WHY does he keep dropping Ryan Bennett?? I've been a big critic of Tettey in the past, but tonight he was brilliant. Playing in front of the back four he bossed that position. We fell apart after he was replaced.
If we get promoted and play like that we'll be relegated by mid season. I know you're trying to be positive but that was an appalling second half display against a team that is second from bottom. The Premiership teams will be licking their lips at the chance to play us, Man City will have a field day again and it will probably be more than 7 against us next time.
Blimey, 7 games in and you've got us promoted and relegated again. Maybe just live for the moment and enjoy the fact that we are winning games?
A lot of assumptions there ILD, but we're not playing in the PL and we're on target for promotion with 2 points per game at the moment and that's my target. If we fall away from that, then I might be critical. We all see what we want to see, I suppose, but I'm willing to celebrate any win, especially when one of our youffs gets both goals.
Can I just say that as requested The crowd got behind the team tonight, the team then promptly let us down!!
That's something that really baffles me as well - I'm guessing it's just so that he can have his first choice captain on the pitch. Yes, I REALLY noticed that, although I thought we played pretty well in the first half when we had both Tettey and Pinto on. Pinto for me is becoming an excellent player and I really hope he isn't going to be sidelined for too long.
As one of the 'perceived' favourites to go up, with a squad that some on here say would be 'the envy' of most sides in this division, isn't it about time they clicked together, and traded some guile and slick football for ninety minutes of huff, puff and hanging on (again) for dear life towards the end? Fourth place in the table flatters us and doesn't even start to tell the story, as we've not had to face any of the top teams in this league yet, as documented earlier in this thread. Chuffed with the last two results, but the performances sounded laboured and edge of the seat jobs. And why were many of our players flat on their backs or down on their haunches at the final whistle? They hardly got out of their own half in the second 45 minutes so it shouldn't be from excessive pitch coverage. If they're exhausted, there's something fundamentally wrong with their overall fitness - which is up to the gaffer to do something about - and there's 39 games to go yet, chaps If it was just collective relief at stumbling over the finish line, I'll let them off after that performance
I don't mind winning ugly when we have been guilty in the past of playing pretty football and losing . I was hoping for 6 points at home and a few goals. This will hopefully breed confidence
I think the point about our lack of fitness is very relevan. We seem to fade fast in the second half match after match. I do think that our injury list is affecting us. Last night all of our starting back four have come back from injury as had Dorrans, and Jerome who had to run his backside off alone up front for the second time in fours days. I hope that as the season goes on our players will stay injury free and gain match fitness. I know the defence has been poor but we have a new keeper and an unsettled back line due to aforementioned injuries. Again I hope that over time this will improve. My worry is the midfield. AN just doesn't seem to be able to find the right balance despite having a strong and deep pool of players to select. Obviously Jerome cannot carry the front line as despite his laudable work rate he just cannot finish. Maybe Basil will improve this when he gets match fit.
He mentions this in his post-match interview and the reasons you outlined are pretty spot on. http://www.canaries.co.uk/news/arti...ich-city-wigan-athletic-reaction-3306739.aspx
