I think some people are getting a touch emotional, though the laeds shouldn't be let off At half time you were raving about how good we were! You weren't saying 'LJ needs to change it', and if Tomlin's penalty goes in and we win comfortably, you'd have been singing everyone's praises. You are the stereotypical football fan who spouts off after the fact. The lads deserve criticism, as capitulating like they did shows real mental weakness - but don't suggest losing was because the team was set up wrong to begin with.
Two players cost us at Rotherham and two players cost us tonight. You know who they are. Time to be dropped Saturday.
You can forgive fantastic winning goals but the winner tonight was comical, diabolical defending! Sooner Matthews is in the better. Flints lack of mobility and decision making is very concerning and I would expect Ekstrand to start against Derby.
gutted tonight obviously, but come on people, we have a new young squad, they will gel, and we arent exactly rooted bottom with no points are we? We cant keep being so bloody fickle, one week we're world beaters going places with a top coach, one game later we are bleating about the exact opposite!!!!!!!!!! We will have a decent season i'm sure, it will have ups and downs, but christ lets stay a little sensible! LJ's interview shows hes not happy and on the ball, there will be a few roasted over the next few days, he'll get it sorted, remember our bloody saying.............. ..........."always believe"
All teams miss penalties but I've seldom seen such a fall out from a missed one !! Had it gone in, I've no doubt we'd have won comfortably. But from all of this calamity, including yet another major O'Donnell gaffe, most of all WTF was O'Neill thinking about !? An experienced and seasoned professional jumps in, for no reason, having already been booked, and when there was cover behind him, and for me that's when the game changed. 5 dropped points from 2 games when we should have had 6 points, and recent performances riddled with basic mistakes needs urgent attention from the Manager. Had we won both of these last 2 games we'd be third in the table. A big performance and result is needed against Derby now.
First of all last night's defeat had f a to do with Junior. 'Last night' sometimes happens and with any small amount of luck we'd have come home from Yorkshire with 6 points, not 1. It was gut wrenching and I still can't believe Flint at Rotherham and now the penalty miss,in seconds we're down to 10 men and then to cap it all O'Donnell f**ks up massively. Some of the comments on here though are way over the top. It's what happens in sport and on any given day anything, literally anything can happen. We must accept our last 2 games, learn, calm down and be ready for the next instalment.
A excellent piece from a guy at the game last night- I'm home and trying to dry out and calm down (I live in Sheffield) 11 on 11 we were the better team. That's the crumb of comfort I'm clinging to here. However, we bottled it after the two sendings off- completely lost our heads and I think that's very worrying. Everything that was good in the first half just went out the window at 10 v 10 and we should have had the advantage; we were quicker than them for an hour and passed the ball better. We ran them ragged first half and yet we were blowing out our arses in the last 10 The penalty was as clear as they come and while I appreciate that Tomlin is the designated penalty taker, why the **** wouldn't he give it Tammy? He can only lose from that situation- if he scores so what. If he misses he looks like a**** who's just robbed an 18 year old of a hattrick. O'Neil's sending off was bullshit. HOWEVER you make a tackle like that, on a yellow card, after the ref has just sent a home player off, he's going to even things up So what was good. Tammy is an absolute beast. It's my first game of the season, I didn't expect him to be so physically dominant. Magnusson is clearly a top quality player, needs to work on his heading but his positioning and awareness are excellent and he's got a great pass on him. O'Dowda was also good, Bryan excellent and Brownhill was also very good first half The bad. Tomlin is part of the problem here folks. We want everything to go through him, but he just can't keep up with Tammy, COD or even Brownhill or Bryan. Then when he does get the ball he's holding on and holding on because he wants to be the one who plays the killer ball rather than just having the play go through him. Johnson either needs to find a different way to utilise him or bench him from my small viewing sample Midfield- Pack is too passive in a game like that, that's why O'Neil was having to make the kind of challenges that got him sent off. Pack is great when we have possession and are dominating play, he doesn't influence it enough when we're chasing the ball Flint- from the sublime to the ridiculous. He's making mistakes and he needs to cut it out Management- Johnson didn't do enough to influence that game and when he did, he frankly got it wrong. He brought Bobby Reid on to the right wing when Adam Reach was running riot. Bobby then constantly drifted inside, giving Reach so much room and space. It needed a proper winger on there to a) get behind him and b) reduce the space he had. Bobby was either poorly instructed or poorly disciplined Anyway, rant over. Hopefully some lessons will be learnt and some improvements made. The 1st half needs to be the norm and the 2nd half needs to be learnt from
one bonus we have been poor first half for the season,so to come out all blazing first half was excellent, but we imploded second half. I'm pretty sure LJ has no clue to his best eleven at present.
I think we need to see the bigger picture. You cant accommodate for individual mistakes. Players are not robots they can cock up now and again. Ok we have one point from our two trips to Yorkshire but the performances have been there and for the vast majority of both games we were on top and playing good football. Last night we were away and were 2-0 up and could have been 3-1 up against the team who made the Play off final back in May and it wouldn't have flattered us. The capitulation was poor but that 60 seconds when we missed the penalty and got O'Neill sent off got the home crowd going and a side like Wednesday don't need much of an invitation to get a foot in the game. I just don't feel we need to go into panic mode at this time and make wholesale changes.
Well he's going to have to address that sooner or later. Whilst mistakes are commonplace we don't want them becoming an unwanted millstone hanging over the players. Move on ready for Saturday. Another 'easy game' coming up.
Couldn't of said it better myself!! What ever is said, we are 10 times the team to what we were last season.......and I believe will only improve.
