What was the reaction at the final whistle (for those still there)? Did Tooting crack open and share his prize winnings - drowning the sorrows?
Must admit I can't recall the last time we took such a hammering at home although there must be some....... A lot of soul searching to be done in time for Saturday.....
Well, we did break and equal some home scoring records this evening (at least against Reading & Coventry we scored 3 goals):- So there we have it, the worst QPR home league defeat in their history! If he thought NU were good.... Jimmy will probably play 8-1-1 against Sunderland....that will worry the Mackems?!!!!
The clothes may stay on but the good feelings l had for JFH have all but deserted me. How we back up on Saturdays' game will be the acid test.
Mag in peace. That was by far the best we've played this season (or many seasons really) but you are right in saying your team made it easier for us than it should have been. It's only one game so you've just got to write it off and move on. Good luck for the rest of the season and especially against Sunderland Also, hope Perch isn't as bad as it looked. Very much liked at Newcastle, an honest if unspectacular player who always did a job for us.
I was at that game. We were in the third tier I think. And it was the cup. This was far more humiliating. Blown away.
QPR 0 Newcastle 6 (pummelled - a good adjective!) please log in to view this image Jonjo Shelvey has scored three goals in five Championship starts this season Jonjo Shelvey scored twice as second-placed Newcastle pummelled QPR to earn a fifth consecutive Championship win. Shelvey's deflected shot rewarded early Magpies dominance and, with the tone set, Ayoze Perez made it 2-0 with a low strike at the second attempt. The third goal saw Shelvey find the back of the net without any assistance through a stunning 25-yard strike. Ciaran Clark headed a fourth and close-range efforts by Aleksandar Mitrovic and Grant Hanley sealed the rout. Newcastle's win - which takes them to within a point of leaders Huddersfield following their defeat at Brighton - was as stylish as it was emphatic and earned them a sixth victory in a row in all competitions. Magpies flying after slow start And it was even more impressive given the back-to-back defeats in their opening two fixtures of the season. QPR were second best in midfield and devoid of ideas in attack, mustering just one shot on target before the break - and three in total. Their cause was not helped by having ex-Magpies man James Perch taken off a stretcher but, by they that stage, they were already 1-0 down and being outplayed. Perez had a goal ruled out offside before Shelvey's effort took a cruel deflection off Karl Henry to make it 1-0. Ayoze Perez was instrumental in Newcastle's midfield dominance and also grabbed the second goal Matt Ritchie and Shelvey then both had chances but it was the outstanding Perez who grabbed the second of the night when he calmly found the far corner after his initial effort was saved by goalkeeper Alex Smithies. The hosts, who have still not managed a goal from open play this season, saw Steven Caulker head their best chance over the bar. But Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez was able to relax almost immediately after the restart when Shelvey's sensational strike - the pick of the bunch - found the corner of the net. Smithies also had to tip a Mitrovic header on to the bar but, after Clark headed number four from Ritchie's corner, Mitrovic made it 5-0 after good work by Christian Atsu. Hanley's simple shot completed the scoring on a wretched evening for QPR, who slip to 13th in the table. Shelvey did not start the first game of the season but Newcastle have won four of the five league games he has started since Line-ups Match Stats Live Text Home TeamQPRAway TeamNewcastle Possession Home50% Away50% Shots Home7 Away29 Shots on Target Home3 Away12 Corners Home4 Away8 Fouls Home6 Away15 http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37282510
It's extremely hard to analyse and try to give feedback on a game of football when we were that bad. You could tell from around the 10th minute it would be 6 or 7. I can handle other teams being better than us technically, especially Newcastle, who have some very good players for this league. What's very hard to forgive is the sheer lack of effort and running from some of our players and the fact that they gave up from when the first goal went in. Competely unforgivable. I don't even think the two centre halves and smithies played that badly. They weren't helped by two completely inept performances by our full backs who simply weren't in the game. Again, I look to our skipper for some encouragement when losing the game. Nothing. Not a squeak. Cousins and Henry were absolute toilet, I'm not sure between them two and chery who was meant to be marking shelvey, but it became embarrassing that a player who's extremely good for his league was left with that much space. It's not hard to mark and stay with someone. Shelvey, whilst being good, has the movement of shelvey, not Suarez. At times he was standing still in acres. Wingers were non existant and I won't even begin to talk about Washington, whilst not helped by jfh's tactics here, he must realise he had to get on the ball and make it stick. Sylla went up for a few headers in the second half and he was nowhere to be seen. Just didn't want it. I think a few of us have seen enough of him now to see its 2.5million wasted. He clearly needs to play in a two and I'm unsure of his ability at this level to even play in that. What's even more embarrassing is how reliant and vital polter is to how we play. We look clueless without him to hold it up. Here's hoping he's not injured for long or we really could struggle.
At least I was busy and didn't see the result until it was all over. Jesus, what a humiliation. Whatever the line up, picking that team said 'we are not as good as them' to both Toon and our own team.
