When Jo Murphy scored the third the players and Klose in particular were gesticulating toward the crowd, urging their support but it was all a bit 'meh' to be honest. It was as if the crowd were thinking 'well you should be beating this lot'
That's horrible to hear. I don't want to hear of our fans seeming like that. No game is a given. Every win and point is earned. The fans help earn them, or lose them.
A convincing win against Wigan with both Murphys firing then things will look a little rosier. Now the transfer window has shut our players can concentrate on doing their job until January at least.
Nothing like a misquote is there!! What 1950 said was that Turner as 5th choice CB and Whittaker as 3rd choice fullback was better than most Clubs had filling those roles - see thread on the transfer window.
Exactly the point I was making earlier. Just because some lad from the Under 12s is a left-back, doesn't mean he's going to do better than a Premier League right back.
Well of course not but that's irrelevant really. When we played Blackburn at the start of the season they were above us in 3rd, but no one had played at that time. Really to get promotion we need to be beating mid table teams not just the teams in the relegation zone. As the season goes on it i'll become clearer, but at the moment we've only played 2 teams in the top half. One we beat one nil and the other thumped us. As I said we're in third so all would seem good, but it would have been much better to have played 6 teams in the top half of the league and be third than those we play. This early in the season we can only really judge ourselves by how we've performed against the teams we've played, rather than by where we are in the league.
I don't disagree that Naismith is a complete waste of space (and waste of money, I slated AN for even having an interest in the old codger from the outset), but it does appear the he's taken over Redmond's mantle with you as it were
We we're piss poor in the first half, very very poor! Then got ahead and looked home and dry, then for the last 10 mins went to sleep. It was not a very good game to watch which is why the fans are quiet, and in my opinion justifily so. Where was Jonny Howson again today? He disappeared for much of the game which cuts down on our attacking midfield options. Pritchard makes 2 Howsons and 4 Naismiths!
When it suits, people say there are no easy games in this league. When we win 3-2 that argument goes out of the window. We are 4th in the table only 1 point off automatic promotion and have only been beaten once despite injury problems yet looking at this board you would think we are facing disaster. I just don't get it!!!
I guess you were at the game 1950? We we're awful in the first half, and I for one am not satisfied with performances like that! The girl sitting next to me said it was like watching Sunday morning park football! She was right! We almost gave that game away from an comfortable position!
Apologies, squire. As I said, I couldn't recall which thread and in the 'excitement' of the match, no way was I going to trawl through to quote you verbatim But my point still stands - to turn a (reasonably) comfortable 2 - 0 lead after 85 minutes into a nervy, nail-biting 3 - 2 at the final whistle beggars belief. And asks questions galore about the real depth and capability of our squad.
Not just me that doesn't like to see people deployed out of their best position. Just canary dave who clearly does find it acceptable, then? 3) Right is wrong for Howson - There’s few players that have outperformed Jonny Howson, consistently, over the last couple of seasons. He oozes class and is a driving force in the middle of the pitch. Yet Alex Neil has a habit of shifting Howson out wide to accomodate other players, like Graham Dorrans today. While the former Leeds United man uses the ball well on the right-hand side, Howson’s impact decreases almost 10-fold and that’s a real waste given how good he is. No I wasn't at the game - I now live in France and will see few, if any, games live this season. The general point remains valid however. You may not have been satisfied with the performance or the fact that we were in a comfortable position before Cardiff fought back but surely it is more important that we got into a comfortable position in the first place and fought hard enough to win the game. What is more important - points or pretty football? It is rare to get both and as I said it seems that without playing well we are in a good position in the league which to me is more important than playing well and losing. For some unknown reason I was able to watch Brighton v Brentford on French TV this afternoon. Brighton battered them all game, played some lovely football but lost 2-0. Is that what you would prefer?
