Absolutely totally illogical why Buropfield has an NE postcode..

It wasn't so much the post code that bugged me.
More the fact that we had to put Newcastle on Tyne on our address & people from Gateshead didn't. <doh>

Agree very odd but I've posted this before that post codes are allocated according to Royal Mail sorting office used - The SR code covers down to Murton
DH - Durham Sorting office (MailCentre)
I live in Washington in Sunderland but with an NE pc - the darksided Mail.
Since they set up the political "metropolitan counties" - a nightmare for us as with the darkside being geographically easier to get to - main rail, A1 Ponteland Air Port etc they get privilage for this.
Very devious imo - what they miss is Gods Country -a special journey is required to get here

was at the dental hospital today and got chatting me and this lad were wondering if one of them goes in wearing a you cant see me suit, if she just pulls the eye bit down to her mouth to give the dentist access to her mouth without taking it off

I would be surprised if they let male dentists anywhere near them!

Billy does ask a fair question though, how did I know they were young? It could have been anyone!

To be fair, they were pushing children in their buggies and they looked small and slim, not the more mature type who seem to wear headscarves <if that makes any sense>

First things first - post codes are to do with the post office, county boundaries are not. Counties were changed during Thatcher's time in an attempt to rationalise government spending. It affected many parts of the U.K. For example, Rutland ceased to exist and became part of Leicestershire, Cumberland and Westmoreland became Cumbria, and Avon was created at the expense of parts of Somerset and Gloucestershire. Thatcher gave a one hour interview with Robin Day around '88 or '89 and I watched it. She said "Do you know Robin, we never saved a penny through that, and, given that it offended so many people, if I had the money, I'd change it all back again."

I'd like the traditional boundaries back, but she had a point about the cost.

It was nowt to do with saving money, it was all about winning seats to keep her in power.
Like I said earlier - gerrymandering.
Thatcher didn't give a flying frig who she offended.
She offended her entire cabinet including her staunchest allies.
She went to Paris for a summit & effectively, a political coup took place.

Okay, but can you tell me the need for gerrymandering? I mean, throughout the 1980s, she was murdering every other party anyway. We need a motive for gerrymandering. And I can't see one.
