My thanks to OCF for flagging up the youffs match last night! A solid 2-0 win over a talented Vaencia U23 side with goals from Morris and an own goal forced by Josh Murphy. Pritchard and Dorrans both got 45 minutes, Canos 73 minutes and Turner, Bassong and Jones played the whole game. That means that at least 4 of the 7 injured players are back to fitness, with Jarvis still out and Pinto and Olsson borderline apparently, while Martin played the whole game for Scotland.

Thanks for posting the link Rick and if I hadn't been away, I'd have gone to the game. From the match report, it sounds as though we have a promising keeper in Jones in addition to reading that Pritchard was very influential in his 45 minutes. Some good news at last!!!

Edit - also good to see Rusty played for Scotland and hopefully he can play RB and relegate Whittaker to the bench.

 

Jones made some outstanding saves and Turner and Bassong kept a tight defence with no cock ups.

 

Which means Bassong is well overdue a cock up.

 

There were a couple of typical Bassong moments but the youngsters got him out of it.

 

By the sounds of how busy Jones was in the second half, Coco and Calamity may not have made a complete cockup, but they hardly formed an impenetrable wall either!

Bah!

 

All in all a very satisfying game and result.
Impressed with: Jones (gk) Thompson, Dorrans, Pritchard, Murphy.
Morris needs to use his size more, took his goal well.
Canos seemed a bit lost for large parts of the game, he was playing too deep in my opinion.
The two full backs didn't disgrace themselves.
Rafael Mir was their stand out player, gave our left side defence a torrid second half.
If our first team played like this then the crowd would be a lot louder than recent games.
Well done lads, enjoyed it immensely.

 

Didn't see it, but Turner got an 8 and Bassong a 7 in the ReadNorwich player ratings. Pritchard also got an 8 and Jones a 9 as well as MotM. Thompson got a 6, but all the others were 7 so it does seem to have been a good show all around. Next game in this cup is in November against Celtic U23s at CR.

It was him yes. His one and only appearance thankfully although he was on the bench a couple of times that season.

I have cold sweats and palpitations even now thinking about that game !!!!
