I just watched the England match. What a load of rhubarb that was. You can tell a number of them were trained initially in Southampton can't you.

I fancy a few did train in Plymouth because most of it was joke, maybe we should get ones that trained in Exeter

Original satire is a wonderful thing ain't it............at least they are successful qualifying in Europe albeit they don't stay there long. That bits obviously catching from club level.

"A number of them", two to be precise Greeny, one who scored the winner and hit the post and the other one had a legal goal disallowed...

    Sir Alf Ramsey
    Alan Shearer
    Ted Drake
    Terry Paine
    Mick Channon
    Martin Chivers
    Matt Le Tissier

all initially trained at Southampton, come on Greeny, do a list for Plymouth, there must be at least one England player who was trained by Argyle...:D

    You forgot Graham Roberts, Possum.

Initially in Saints academy, released and signed by Pompey (whose expert coaching turned him into an England international :emoticon-0103-cool:).

Graham Roberts was a close neighbour of mine on Weston Estate in Southampton, Woops, funny thing was that his sisters were tougher than he was!...they both played Rugby for Soton Ladies...:emoticon-0146-punch

Do you remember Trevor Roberts, a tall, black kid, who signed for Pompey in the late 70s?. Don't know if he ever played for the first team, but he was a year above me at my school.

Hi S_A, I do remember Trevor Roberts at centre half - big lad, but not consistent enough. I've said on here before, that I was in the same class at secondary school as Bobby Stokes who at 14 was a good all round sportsman. He didn't do badly when he got older, did he ?!

Anyway guys , back on thread.

Looks like 'Natural Order' will be resumed soon enough, Scummers in the relegation zone after being outclassed at an ordinary Arsenal side, and Super Pompey up to 2nd and auto-promotion this season.<laugh>

I wonder how long it will be before the good Fraulein sells up her pension stake in the Scummers when they are confirmed as down and out?<whistle>

I have got to say that I would very much like to see Portsmouth play against Southampton on a more regular basis. Part of my as a Saints fan find it amusing that Portsmouth are the fourth tier of English football. There is a tragi-comic element about their predicament which makes you laugh but, if I am honest, I would relish the chance to play another local derby. Obviously I would not like to see Saints relegated but it would be nice to see Portsmouth achieve successive promotions so that there is a chance of putting one over them again.

With Pompey currently being unlikely to get back in to the EPl, I don't think this is likely to happen but is there any other club in football likely to raise the passions of Siants supporters? I would lhave to say that the best part of a decade working in the Portsmouth area made me realise just how much the fans love their club and what it means to the people from this area for their team to be successful. The passion of the Portsmouth fans is probably only second to Newcastle and I think the infrequency of the derby match does make in something special - even for Saints fans. We may laugh at their failings but most genuine Saints fans realise that seeing Portsmouth return to a level where they belong and even playing against us in the annual fixture lists would add to our season. I really miss the derby match but think saints have started to find their niche on the EPL and it is up to Pompey to pull their socks up and move up the table to a position that more realistically reflects both their status and the aspirations of their fans.

SB3's posts are always partisan but the bullish nature of their content always reminds me of the Monty Python sketch with the knight who has been cut to pieces spoiling for a fight. I just see him as Portsmouth's answer to the Wealdstone Warrior.

Well I turn my back for a few months and come back to discover that absolutely nothing has changed. The Panto thread is still here. Reassuring really. And I would say embarrassing for a certain poster, were it actually possible for him feel that sensation.
