What's the verdict on the new summer signings after 5 league games ? Here is mine: Holmes 8/10 - v. impressive, looks a good player at this level, although worrying signs of fatigue v Bolton. Keep him fit & he will create. Magennis 7/10 - won't score 15 goals a season, but leads the line well & gives 100% Rudd 7/10 - hard to get enthusiastic about a loan, but one bad mistake apart (Walsall) has looked decent Pearce 6/10 - average, lacks pace which would find him out against better strikers. Not as good as Teixera, Baeur or even Diarra. Better than Lennon & Rojo though.. Ajose 5/10 - needs to work much harder. Goal hanger but not much else? Crofts 5/10 - bustles around but doesn't create anything and lacks any attacking game whatsoever. Squad player at best. Novak 5/10 - not had many chances but missed a sitter at Bury through lack of pace and again, looks a squad player at best Foley 4/10 - poor mans Mark Kinsella, useful sub for a League 2 team as he plays a few positions but none of them well. He certainly isn't good enough to start in midfield. The lad from Leeds (forget his name ) - no rating but looks another poor loan based on his one cameo to date Russell Slade - 7/10. If nothing else, he has restored a bit of Charlton DNA with a team of Brits showing team spirit and pride in the shirt. Awful performance at Bury but we have slowly got better. We definitely won't get relegated under Slade, but it's a sign of how low we have sunk that we regard that as progress. Chances of outright promotion based on first 5 games - 10% Chances of play offs - 50% I am aiming to do 40-45 games this season, roll on Fleetwood next week
Fairly fair. I think there are signs of Pearce and Ajose growing as we progress. And Crofts seems to up his game when we are playing well. Completely agree on the 50% chance of a play off place!
Yeah - 50% chance is probably where I see us at the moment. We have players like Ajose to hopefully grow in to their role within the team which would bump the % up. If he doesn't then it will bring it down, until January at least. Though I don't expect much to happen in that window unless we sell
I'm almost certain we'll get top 6, not because I'm overly impressed with us so far, but because this division is a shower of sh!t
If we get top six, I'm going to crack open one of the bottles of Dom Perignon Vintage that I have. Only a 2006, let's not get carried away; that was only an okay year.
i dont want to get into rating this team just yet. "good" at league one level doesnt do it for me. the team this regime inherited had 5/6 plays good at championship level or lower premier league standard. what we're watching is awful dross. this team would be smashed 10-0 by our last league one team.
This team would also lose every week in the Championship. Really not good enough if by some miracle we get promoted
Slade is putting together a team that will steady the ship and land us comfortably in mid table. Not good enough ambition-wise, but it will buy the Two Twats some breathing space (with some)
I'd hope not. I'm expecting promotion and if we don't get it, I'm even more anti- these twats than I was before (if that's even possible)
Agree with most Think the signs are generally positive, Holmes, Magennis and Rudd have been very decent so far Think Pearce will be solid and Ajose will score more goals so good signings. Worryingly though, if we were to go up, this team would be crap in the championship and another squad overhaul would be required
My observations the league is worse than I expected ,way worse. Holmes the pick of the bunch looks a threat every time he gets the ball. Maggennis decent enough better than I expected. Croft /Foley immobile very average but 1 or other in the starting side I'm ok with not both Rudd is top class but as Royston said he's a loan so he will be gone next summer . The bloke from Leeds so far in his brief cameo appearances ...bloody useless but cameos so brief bit unfair to rate. Novak haven't seen much of average I suppose as back up ok. Ajose needs to convert chances into goal confident he will do. Slade 5 would give him more but for his lack of starting Lookman and his obsession with defensive lineups. It's a pub league we should be going out to attack and destroy teams.
If you're realistically going for promotion you do need to keep one eye what goes on in the league above. It's still too early to know how the season will pan out, but it's evident this 11 is weaker than the team that got relegated, hence not good enough for the Championship.
I was always led to believe that long-term vision leads to the biggest gains. They keep doing all these short term fixed. This time round, they done nothing.
