£30m? So there was no one else out there over the last 3 months, who perhaps would have been a better fit and been cheaper?

 

Given the effective rate of inflation in football and the reduction in borrowing costs, £30m in 5 yearly installments is really quite a lot less than £30m up front (which is not to say that it is good value)

 

You know what, the more I think about it, I think this is a good deal for Spurs and a statement of intent. Considering the money from it was made selling players from our academy. Sissoko is clearly at his peak and is an upgrade on Bentaleb and Mason. (Would either of them get into the French national team?) He clearly rose to the occasion of the Euros and played a blinder.

I agree, I do think that Poch will have to whip him into to shape, but if he's not in shape he simply won't play, he will know he has to step up to be chosen over Dembele?!?

We are finally building a squad with some kind of stature, and strength in depth.

And if you read the THFC accounts for the 2010-11 season, you will see
the club did exactly that. Specifically, sending nearly all of the CL money on :

1. A large increase in the wage bill that season (how dare players ask for more
money because they qualified for the CL etc) .

2. Land purchase occupying the proposed NPD site (how dare the owners
spend money on land so a stadium with a near 100% capacity increase on
WHL can be built) .

IF he can maintain the level of performance he showed at Euro 16, where he eclipsed Pogba, for me. Then we've got a relative bargain in this mkt.

If he is worth that much and is that good, WTF have none of the richer
clubs bought him ??

 

You could say that about any player at any value, though? By that reckoning Wanyama, Janssen et al must be really ****
