The local Sunday paper in Belfast is saying Kyle Lafferty is leaving Norwich for the Bluebirds. The article is saying he has agreed personal terms and its down to the clubs to agree the financial settlement. The signing is to take place in the next 24 hours and his first game will be against Norwich in 2 weeks. The Sunday life is crap for news but its sports reporting is usually accurate. Might be a good deal if true.
Did well in the qualifiers but not so great in France. That said having no regular starts might have been the cause. Would be a force up front, a good physical presence who would cause defenders problems providing he gets game time. fingers crossed and all that.
Career record of 76 goals in 344 games. Hardly prolific but makes space and chances for others with his physical presence. All we've got to do is get someone in the box with him. ALF anyone? Lafferty can be a bit of a lazy so and so. That would be the pressing game out of the window then.
Cant argue about the bit about him being lazy but for NI he seems to be in the right place at the right time, what we called at school a goal hanger. With the right service he could be the 15+ striker we need. But I am not counting chickens but hope the sunday life is spot on with this story.
WoL via The Sun (2 media outlets of great repute [img src="http://www.not606.com/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/doh.gif" class="mceSmilie" alt=" linking us with Gareth McCleary of Reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garath_McCleary Why on earth would he want to come to us? Not exactly a regular goal scorer either. Desperate times and desperate headlines for the papers. Lafferty and McCleary? Sounds like a music hall double act. Could it work?
McClearly is quick thought Bfb, would add some much needed pace to our team. As you say though, why he would want to come here is beyond me.
Agreed he's quick Sheepy but so is Harris and Noone. His scoring record is mediocre so not the striker we need. However if he was part of a wider plan involving someone who knows where the net is, then that could work. He has a year left on his Reading contract so they might want to cash in.
Finally it's sorted. Whilst the additions haven't exactly been exciting so far we've certainly sorted some of the historical wage issues at the club. Now we need to see a bit of commitment from Tan and the board buy investing in the types of players mentioned above. Players with some sort of proven Championship pedigree.
Sorry for your loss Stevo. Yes, hope we can get in someone half decent - or even a quarter decent!!! As for McLeary and Lafferty, could be just paper talk. We will find out in next 36 hours.
Sky Sources saying we're in advanced talks with Lafferty, now that Norwich have signed some Jack striker. Building up a bit more steam compared to The Sun
Just looking at the squad. We've still got 33 players with numbers as well as the couple that are out on loan. I'd suggest there is still the need to move 4-5 on. How big was the squad before the trollope cull started. And how big was it before Slade wielded the axe? no wonder we're skint. Can't imagine Digi-watsit and Kiko left for nothing.
Last Klingon on his way? http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/08/30/por-wigan-agree-loan-deal-for-cardiffs-le-fondre/
With a bit of luck we will not be paying towards his wages so the possibility of a decent outcome. If on loan then we might be paying some but at least we can stop him playing and scoring against us. Have to say I am underwhelmed at the prospect of signing Lafferty. Hardly a goal machine.
Lafferty doesn't inspire me either Bluey. It's just chit chat and I can't find any back up media stuff to support it, but I've been told City have asked about Nick Blackman from Derby now they've bought Vydra.
Hmmm, a good season at Reading before signing for Direby and bombing. A strike rate of just over 1 goal every 4 games - better than Lafferty and McCleary. Been around the block with 7 English clubs and 2 Scottish. If my memory serves correctly, a lot of his Reading goals came from shots on or around the edge of the box having been put clear from mid field so not necessarily a hit it up to him and hold it up target man. I have more of an open mind on him than Lafferty. Just hope something positive happens today. The worst thing will be not signing anyone and we are stuck with what we have.
