Villa’s new owner confirms they have had a £20M offer for Hernandez rejected by #HCAFC & move to other targets. Serious statement of intent from the Chinese consortium.
The tweet I saw from their owner didnt give a figure on their bid only that they were moving on to new targets because we wouldnt agree. I havent seen anything with a £20m attached and I really doubt they offered that much for him.
Yea if you follow the tweet to its source (the Sam Byrnes tweet) then he (Dr. Tony Xia) is saying that they bid 20 mill. That has to be the highest bid anyone has ever made for one of our players then.
I just went to a villa forum. They are saying that it wasn't 20 mill upfront but it was 14 mill, 3 mill for appearances and 3 mill for goal and assist totals. So 14 mill rising to 20 mill. Still a lot of money to turn down.
I'd have snapped their hand off for £20m. I suspect the reason they're publicly calling off the pursuit is because it's international week now and he'll be flying out making any deal impossible. Just checking - Uruguay have got a game haven't they and he was called up?
Why? We'd be much worse off with £20 million in the bank and only one striker. At this moment in time Hernadez is worth more than £20 million to us, at the start of the summer than maybe it would have been a good deal but with a few days left of the transfer window and no one to replace him it would be madness.
Because I think we could get better for that money. And you don't know when the bid was made, they could've offered £20m a week ago.
I agree in theory you could get better for £20 million, although in the current market that wouldn't be easy. The problem is even if the bid was made weeks ago we have no manager and are in between owners, there's no one to identify the new player and it's extremely unlikely anyone would sanction the transfer. Any other transfer window and it would have been a good deal but in our situation I think it was wise to turn it down.
I agree that £20m is silly money for Hernandez... but in this day and age, a fairly young premier league striker who plays second fiddle to Suarez for his country is worth more like £25-30m It's not just the value of the player, its how much he's worth to us. Who could we bring in for that amount who is as good or as proven that wouldnt be a gamble? The smart move is to reject any bids for players and see what happens in January.
Manolo Gabbiadini is available for that price and ****loads better. He would be a gamble but keeping Abel is - how many PL goals has he scored in how many games? I'm guessing it must be about 5 in 25.
Good job we are in this state of limbo between owners which means neither side were in a position to accept the offer.
Judge him by the end of the season, he's certainly not the first decent player to take his time to adapt to the PL. Gabbiadini is unproven and there's no way we could out bid Everton, there's not a chance that could happen.
He's not unproven, he's unproven in the Premier League. So is Hernandez. And why do you think we'd have to outbid Everton? Just because a few papers have linked him there doesn't mean they're going to bid for him. Unless Lukaku goes I can't see him going there, he's said publicly many times that he needs to be a first choice after playing back-up to Higuain all last season.
Does make me giggle that some of you think it's easy to replace the likes of Hernandez .. what makes you think that players like Gabbiadini would agree to come here .. we are struggling to get the 'average' players in and will no doubt end up paying over the odds to bring them in. Some of you really need a reality check when saying sell
Because Napoli have said he can go and we're one of the richest clubs in the world. And let's not focus too much on him anyway. I only watch Italian football and a bit of Premier League, I'm sure there's ****loads of very good strikers around the world that we could attract for £20m who are better than Hernandez. It's only a year ago we'd have sold him for £5m.
