Waz sport in Germany are saying that Wolfsburg are in negotiations with us to sign Son.

 

Yeah I think so, IIRC Jan was in a press conference and the journalist asked "is it Tottenham you'll be joining?" and he gave a big smile but it was roughly another 2 weeks until he did actually sign.

 

Would much prefer he stayed as it's keeps positions competitive BUT if we can recoup the money we paid for him then I wouldn't be too distraught if we sold. Can't see him dislodging Lamela/ Alli/ Eriksen any time soon.

 

This wouldn't surprise me tbh. Explains why despie GKN finally on his way we are still being linked with attacking midfielders; Silva and Yarmolenko being the latest on the rumour mill. He always struck me as a panic buy once it became clear that the Berahino deal was sinking rapidly. He's got bags of talent but based on what we saw of him last year - lacks the one key ingredient that Poch values above all else: work rate. I do feel for him though as a large chunk of his playing time has been wasted on playing out of position as a lone striker - through no fault of his own - so we never really got to see the 'real' Son.

As for GKN, the most ridiculous thing about this whole saga is that the player has sat around twiddling his thumbs for over a month. He can't train with Spurs because he isn't officially a player, while Marseille won't let him train there as he wants out. So we'll end up with an unfit, horrendously unprepared player on our books who can barely speak a word of English and has never played in the PL before. The whole situation is laughable.

 

Hopefully he's spent the month having English lessons.

 

Luckily for him we'll have a few French speaking players such as Hugo and the Belgians, I'd like to think he's been learning English while he's been over here though, along with keeping up his fitness (perhaps Poch has asked him to do certain routines?) but it's definitely not been ideal for him or us.

Various media outlets are claiming that it's a fee of £5m. Sunderland fans will have mixed feeling on this, I think.

 

Story in Standard about OM being bought and that this will further delay N'koudou transfer.
And another about Son being wanted by several teams including Wolfsburg.
If we are to get rid of Njie and Son it would suggest that our transfer target profile of players last summer were not too good.

Can not understand why so many players are being sold (often shortly after theyve been bought) without being given a chance, when players like mason and carroll who were so abysmal against newcastle just seem to be bulletproof.

First two points are old news but your third point is really beginning to worry me. Our transfer policy has improved drastically in that we've picked up a truckload of players at an absolute bargain who look class (Dier, Alli, Toby, Big Kev), but then on the other hand we've drifted back to the bad habits of the late 90's/early 00's in terms of signing supposedly promising players who are then unceremoniously ditched after barely a year at the club. Njie, Yedlin, Stambouli, Fryers, now perhaps Son as well.

If players are really that bad that we're happy to offload them - often at a net loss - having barely been given a chance to impress, our scouting team needs to be put under some serious scrutiny. Perhaps this was part of Levy's reasoning behind 'encouraging' Mitchell to step down? Wouldn't surprise me, given how paranoid he's been about wasting money since Baldinigate.
