Well Suarez did ALMOST singlehandedly win a PL title for an extremely ****e Liverpool team If it weren't for Slippy G and the funky bunch, he may have even pulled it off.
On the basis that Goofy single-handedly almost won 'Pool the league title in his last season with them, I reckon that must put him somewhere very near the top. That's my unbiased view.
Not for me. Messi is in a class of his own. Suarez is very, very good at what he does, he has a lot of world class qualities and he would get into any team in the world. No doubt about that. But for me Messi has something magical about him, he can play the provider, a number 10 type role, or he can be the wide man pulling players wide, he can be the main forward, he could play anywhere other than a defensive position and compete for the best in that position in the world IMO. He can single handedly destroy teams and has done it on many occasions. He has the ability to go past half an opposition team on his own and put the ball away. He has so much more to his game than just the goals and assists (of which he gets an incredible amount). I think Suarez is at the top of his game at the moment and absolutely thrives off playing in a front line with Messi and Neymar. They all benefit a lot from playing together and are developing an incredible understanding of what the others will do and want from each other. They are all very good. But for me Messi still shades it. Watching him play is something else, he has a touch of magic beyond the other two, who themselves have something very special about them. I think it's the incredible technical ability with the ball that Messi has which edges it for him and its that same thing that has always made me think he is better than Ronaldo whos physical attributes have always contributed to his success.
Agree. As far as I understand it, most sane people can see Messi is easily the best player in the world. Though there are some United nuts who will claim its **** Rag 7 (Ronaldo), and some Scousers who will swear its Count Goofy (Suarez). Bias....isn't it great
Agree. Not only the best player right now, but probably the best player there has ever been too, i reckon.
Messi or Maradona. Probably Messi. Although I'm old enough to remember Georgie Best. He was special! I sometimes wonder how we would have fared nowadays, when pitches aren't plowed fields and defenders can't semi legally kick you into row 5
Fitness wise, all those British players from the 60's and 70's would be left in the dust. I have read many of their autobiographies, and they used to start the day off with a fry up at the local greasy spoon, followed by a smoke, before training. Their diets were ****ty. Most of them drank vast quantities of alcohol, partied all night and slept with hundreds of women, and caught the clap. This was in the days before the internet and camera phones, where anything and everything you did was snapped and spread across the world like wildfire within minutes, so you could get away with that ****.
I was having this conversation with my lad, no doubts Messi has been the best player ever (ignoring the OP here as this is a different argument) but I said he's not my fav player ever. When I watch Messi I almost find him boring as he does what he does with so much ease and although he is the better player I have enjoyed more in my lifetime watching quite a few other players, Zidane, Suarez to name 2.
You've enjoyed watching Suarez because he played for your team (when he wasn't serving a ban for racist or animalistic behaviour). He's a million miles away from being as good as either Zidane or Messi. Both were exceptional throughout their careers. Suarez has gradually improved to become one of the best players in the world towards the end of his career. You are the most level headed of Dippers Luv but it hasn't prevented you from being infected by the "best player in da wuuuuuuurld" disease that all of you suffer from. Score a worldy against Derby County - "best player in da wuuuuurld".
In terms of the player I have enjoyed watching the most, and the player who has bought me the most joy, its without doubt Lampard for me. He was a beast in his prime, especially in our back to back title winning seasons 05 and 06.
I'm aware of that. But that was the norm in those days. It's not now. It was also the norm for players like Chopper Harris, Norm Hunter etc to kick seven colours out of you. They might get the ref wagging his finger at them after they'd already done it 3 or 4 times. If you never saw Bestie play, he was something special! So, I do wonder how he would have done under today's conditions.
If I was being biased and saying it because he was a Liverpool player I'd have gone Gerrard I am actually putting that to one side and am also including his Barca career, I love watching him play as I have also loved watching Zidane is all I'm saying and that I enjoyed watching them more than Messi even though that technically Messi is or has been at least the better player. As you can see from the thread some (non Liverpool fans) have agree with my OP and some at least say there's an argument to be had at the moment.
