Keegan is entitled to his opinion as much as I respect the guy the simple answer is no, because he's not making the decisions or is he not involved with the club anymore.

what gets me is that ashley has the potential to be treated like a god on tyneside. we've seen the hysteria that came with the great sides created by keegan and sir bobby robson. the area was buzzing and we couldn't get enough of it.
when ashley first arrived he said he wanted newcastle to be one of the top 5 teams in europe. he's a billionaire and if he put his money on the table for players and got his brain into gear we actually could achieve what he initially set out to do. it baffles me why he doesn't want to go for it.
i think the fact he didn't know or claim to know the state of the clubs finances before he bought it seems bizzare and when the fans turned on him after the keegan debacle has made him think 'f*** you lot' why should i take all this crap.
so we're left now with an owner who just wants to put the club in a healthy financial position for when a new investor comes along and relieves him of the club for as little financial damage as possible to him.
it's turned out quite sad in the end that a man who could of made the club a giant of english football and made himself a hero into the bargain has chose the route he has.

Keegan was a bit of a dick with that whole fiasco, he overreacted and he betrayed the fans.

Mike ashley sure hes been a massive nob in the past but to be honest im happier with the team now than for about 6 years so i think we should just chill out and stop moaning.

The team we have now is superb, we are stable financially and seem to have an alright manager.

We should be garteful that fatty got us relegated, first trophy in bloody ages and amazing season in the champo, renewed vigour around the club and new found respect by opposing fans.

Yes, that's a reasonable take on matters bud.

To me, Ashley is a low life wheeler dealer, who didn't realise how us lot would turn from drooling drinking buddies to a well angry mob after he upset our hero Kevin Keegan. After that, the bloke has been a walking disaster zone in Toon Army respects.

But he's made error after error, all things considered. Dennis Wise appointed, Joe F*cking Kinnear appointed, Derek Llambias appointed, the sacking of Chris Hughton with the replacement by a casino pal Alan Pardew. (no offence to Pardew in all fairness). Plus Andy Carroll helicoptered out of here, with no possibility of a replacement, and now club captain and leading goalscorer sold to a lower division club ... it smacks of the crazy gang out of control!!

Alan Pardew will never speak out against anything, but instead fall in line to his only master - he doesn't care a f*ck about our fans (in sharp contrast to KK, who actually feels for us, an IMO will come back one day in a director of football type role. (I wish).

But even if Mike Ashley feels that we were the nodding dogs to criminal agents, who took us for a ride every time, and knows that this has to stop like now, well, I can empathise with this tack.

But he's lost the trust of this Geordie nation and has done by his attrocious communication skills as demonstrated by simpy not speaking to us in any way whatsoever.

Even Freddie Shepherd treated us with more lip service than that.

While I hate the pair of them I love the Toon more so I'm reserving judgement until the window shuts. Id rather have a couple of hate figures in charge if we do well than a great chairman like Gibson and a **** team. Hobsons choice I think they call it. All about opinions though..

Sorry pal, but if you think that the team we have now is superb then you need to find someone to lend you some old tapes of the mid 90's, maybe before you were born, when we were beating all the top teams - Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool and the likes. Presently, we have no proven Premiership goalscorer in our squad, never mind a host of England players, as we did then. Kevin Keegan actually respects our fans - find anybody in the club, except Peter Beardsley and John Carver, who actually values us as people if you can.

But to call KK a bi of dick, f*ck me, I don't get you.

As I have said many times before, there are many Geordie fans suffering 'Stockholm Syndrome' as far as Ashley is concerned.

After all the farce that has engulfed our once proud club, I simply couldn't stand it anymore and have not set foot in SJP since Chris Hughton was sacked.
I have since moved away from Newcastle and live in Devon these days - of course I miss watching the Toon, it was a way of life for 17 seasons before that but I simply couldn't stomach the utter bullshit coming from Ashley/Llambias on a regular basis and I certainly was not prepared to be taken for a mug anymore.

I vowed not to return to SJP until that fat bucket of bullshitting slime has left - cutting off my nose to spite my face? Possibly, but i'm a much happier person these days and while I will always follow the results and come on here to discuss things Newcastle United, I will NEVER give Mike Ashley another penny of my hard-earned cash.

Those that choose to continue to do so... fair enough but you have NO RIGHT to complain whilst feeding the monster...<ok> overseasTOON is right that we'll never see enough people staying away to make a financial difference to Mike Ashley... Ashley is also very aware of that and LITERALLY banking on it.

im 23 so i enjoyed the glory years as a boy, we were awesome...however i dont see how this conflicts with my comment.

    i like kk, always have

he was a dick on that occasion tho, he threw his rattle out the pram, quit out of the blue and then filed a lawsuit against the club.

Good article. It annoys me that some people on here have lambasted Keegan for taking legal action against Ashley for breach of contract. He was, of course, vindicated later on.

What else was he supposed to do? Ashley has probably spent most of his life bullying people and riding roughshod over their interests. What you do NOT do with bullies is lie down and let them walk all over you.

Keegan stated that the money from the Carroll deal would not be spent on players. Is there anyone who still says it will?

Something I forgot to mention. The regime at Newcastle don't like players who speak their mind either. Hence the reason why Nolan is gone and why they're not bothered about Barton staying.

Keegan did great things for the club in the past but spent a hell of a lot of money. The modern day equivalent is Harry Redknapp and he dont like the fact that he has to balance the books and sell players before buying......

These managers are judged on their success but it HAS come with a price. Lets see how good Arry does this season. Keegan spat the dummy when he was told no more money and his arguments with the current regime seem to be the same.... about money. Now I think he was thinking he was gonna be judged on the results after not being able to spend what he wanted. Any mupper given a open cheque book could sign good players and NEARLY win something.

The best managers EVER have not had open cheque books to win leagues.... It has came with years of planning and RE INVESTMENT......SAF and Wenger are prime examples.

The key point here is the REINVESTMENT...... This is the only concern I have with Cashley and Lamb. But they are businessmen and they know that if they do not reinvest in players then the value of the club will go down. So I am gonna give them this season to prove themselves before I ultimately judge them.

Keegan was lied to from day one. In his first press conference he spoke of breaking new transfer records etc so he was obviously promised the earth to get him on board including Dennis Wise as his Overlord : )

Of course we should listen to Keegan but it's amazing the number of people who get on here (probably recent fans) calling him 'embittered' and criticising him for suing the club for breach of contract. Probably the same people who would deny Joey Barton the freedom to say how things really are at the club.
