Before today I would have been confident but we were so poor I'll cast my vote in November if that's ok?
No (Based on our squad now) If we sign the CB, and at least 1 striker we have needed for the past 5-6 seasons. (I think we need 2 strikers) Then I'd consider my vote again. At the moment, no. Miles off a Promotion team. In and around the playoff's mainly. As I said before the Ipswich game, they wouldn't be scared of us, we have nothing attacking again. Ipswich are pretty average. That's where we are atm. Struggling against teams who have spent 2M in 3 seasons.
Seriously? We've needed a decent CB pairing since Pompey screwed us on the Linvoy Primus con show. When was that? 2004?
Without a striker signed I think we struggle to make the playoffs, with one I'd have a touch more confidence. So probably should have voted when the transfer window closes...
Agree with DH, this needs to wait until the window has closed and re-evaluate where we are then. At the moment, I'd say no, largely because the gaffer doesn't seem to have learned a great deal from last season's disappointment. For example, for me, the line up yesterday was too slow, narrow and involved playing people out of their preferred positions. What's wrong with giving Toffolo a game at LB so Brady can actually do what he's best at and hurt teams by playing in a more advanced role?
We are unbeaten whilst playing generally poorly averaging 2 pts per game. I think we'll be able to get promoted as much because the oposition lack quality as our own. If/when we fail to sign another striker, all bets are off! Bah!
I agree - the paucity of quality in the division is already apparent and that above all things gives me a meagre amount of confidence that we should (key word here), should be able to get promoted. However, if no new striker appears (and I include N'Doye in this statement) then I'd have to reconsider.
Far too early for people to start moaning. If we had been offered eight points from our first four fixtures and above Newcastle and Villa how many would not have taken that?
I would have taken 8 points for sure - I'm not moaning by any means and feel we have a good chance of going back up. This has more to do with the way that the division is so open and that, thus far, no-team has shone. Huddersfield are doing well, punching above their weight maybe (so did Uncle Fester last year so you can't write The Terriers off), Fulham re-emerging and the new cash rich Wolves look a threat - some of the more "fancied" teams such as Derby, Nukes and Villains have yet to hit form so there is a long way to go and we're in that mix. I do feel that the addition of a quality striker (Britt, Wells, Rhodes et al) could be the differentiator as we are definitely under strength up front.
I'm just going to be the one to say it. I think we need a striker. ...I'm sorry, it's just how I feel.
IMO, AN is finally being able to shape the team for the way he wants us to play. The lone striker is important, but not the only source of goals. Jerome has subscribed to this, contributing two goals in four matches, but 4 other goals have been scored by other midfielders and to me that is going to be our strength this season. From what he says about Oliveira, we could have another source of goals, in some cases from the striker, but also from those coming into the box to provide possible goals as well. We have a lot of other options as well and I'm looking forward to this multiple attacking format, which, IMO, will see us going up again.
