Curtis Davies - a full on Captain Fantastic performance! Jake Livermore - looked like he'd played there all his life, ultra smart move from Phelan. Sam Clucas - I had real concerns that he was too lightweight to make the step up, I now realise that was due to only ever previously seeing him play to Steve Bruce's tactics, central midfield is now surely his permanent position whilst ever Phelan us with us. Special, special mention to Mike Phelan. It seems amazing that he's spent many a year learning the ropes under the most successful club manager ever yet he's still to be given his own gig. If yesterday was a glimpse into his future managerial style then I think that he'll become very much in demand. Along with seeing through the pre-season in what has obviously been the most testing of circumstances he also changed the complete playing style of our first eleven, to a much more attractive and effective system, culminating in a glorious three points against the champions of England. I could harp on for ages regarding the major differences to our playing style against what we've seen over the last few seasons, but you all witnessed it so I won't. Finally I really, REALLY hope that our new owners give him the opportunity to carry on what he has started. I obviously appreciate that were only one game in but I believe that this truly could be the beginning of a golden era.
Davies Snodgrass Livermore Genuinely could have put a case forward for every player, Elmo, Dio, Abel, Clucas standing out as well...
Diomande just for being a much better player than I thought he was. Davies was outstanding and did you see the way he got the lads in a huddle after the game? I wish I knew what he said to them. Clucas, what a steal. Let's face it though, the whole team were the motm
I had tears in my eyes at the end of yesterday's game. All the players and Mike Phelan get the vote for me but as we have to choose 1. Jake - for playing out of position and doing a great job. To see him and Curtis prompting each other and taking the fight to them was just brilliant. 2. Snoddy - it was etched in his face from the get go how much he wanted this. Inspiring 3. Clucas - so Diame may well be a class act, but this kid NEVER stopped working, getting stuck in defensively and always looked to make something happen in the middle. I had a couple sat behind me yesterday actually moaning and suggested our players were lazy for not getting forward quick enough...unfuckingbelievable. I noted loudly to my grandson that even though the sun was not directly on us, I could still smell burning plastic coming from behind me. That shut the ****wits up.
