I agree, already the sniping is happening with nobody apparently good enough in our games, all two of them, one of which we actually won. Sometimes I wonder what planet some are on here, and I'm not talking just this forum but other places such as social media.

I agree with most of what you say, routs was pants yesterday, thought barrow was better tbh, but on Fer he had a poor game, I'm not saying they are not good enough to play, but I would like to see Montero start next league game. And hopefully Leon will be fit next game as well as our shiny new striker.

To be fair, I'm not saying Fer had a fantastic game, just that he didn't have a bad one in my opinion. He missed a few passes but broke up a lot of play too and surged us forward into a lot of good positions first half, it was a 50/50 game from him - he certainly did better than Ki did when he came on.

I'd like to see Montero start next game too. I do like him as an impact sub, but in a game like yesterday where the opposition are just camped in their own half, their full backs aren't exactly going to tire - they weren't getting up and down the pitch. So it was hardly worth saving Monty until the second half. He showed more in his cameo than Routledge. Barrow was better than Routledge, agreed, but unless he ups his game regarding providing quality service to his striker, it doesn't really matter how many full backs he beats.

Regardless, Routledge and Barrow had great pre-seasons and I hope they still retain some of that confidence to take forward from here. One bad game doesn't make you a bad player, so they've got to get back on the horse and keep going. I'm backing them both to play well next game (whether starting or off the bench).

I agree with most of the points here. Surely our wide men were briefed on what Llorente requires? No delivery from Barrow or Routledge and marginally better from Monty. Whilst Llorente is the front man they must realise that intricate 0ne-twos on the edge of the box are not what he needs.

How about we've just lost 2 nil to a side that brought 6-7 kids with them in their match day squad? Hell we could still be playing now and we still wouldn't have scored.
Looking at that game yesterday, if Gylfi has an off day, the chances are we won't score because we are heavily reliant on him both in creative terms and his ability to score.

Surely this point sums up the quality or lack of bought this summer? We are already depending on Leon staying fit etc.

A paper bag would have been more effective than Ki.

Ummmm we are also relying on Siggy being fit, we are small team that plays as a team, we don't have individual superstars

Llorente worked hard and kept talking to both wingers throughout but his frustration became a burden and he became totally ineffective in the latter stages of the game .He had a chance in the 1st half with his head which he made too strong a contact and went wide but imo instead of laying the ball off which he did for the majority I would just like to see him have taken a shot , the chances were there but the wrong options taken .There was enough bodies in the area to capitalise on any rebound which may have fallen to us but too much gaffing about made us really ineffective where it mattered most.I think Naughton had more attempted shots than any other player and with Amat trying from 30 yards out that just showed the frustration creeping into our play .

Does anyone think we've already reached our highest league position for the season ?
We are currently 10th. With our next 2 matches being away to Champions Leicester and then home to Chelsea, we'll probably slip further down the table towards the relegation positions.

No and thrice no , we need to improve and we will and when everyones up to par regarding game time and fitness I'm sure we'll be ok but this season will be hard ,it's unlikely we'll pick up many points against the Manchester Clubs and Liverpool despite yesterdays result will be just as difficult so imo thats why I feel that to lose yesterday was a very poor result and hopefully not systematic of us yet again not beating teams who we should or could rather than those we're not expected to .

I agree with Big when he said "Too many times we just cut inside and passed to a player stood on the edge of the box in amongst a sea of Hull players. With Hull playing so deep, it was clear that we needed to pack the box and get plenty of crosses in - instead we put players in the box, but played the ball behind everyone to the edge of the box, lost it, and then scrambled back to try and stop counter attacks"
Although I don't think Leicester away is a game for Monty to start. I think we will keep broadly the same line up although Ki may start this game.

As I said in my previous post, as it stands, unless we bring in quality midfielders/attackers, if Leon and Gylfi get injured/lose form, we are in big trouble.
We might play as a team, but if one, or God help us both are out, we haven't got the quality nor creativity in the squad to replace them.

Hard to assess just by listening to the game and not seeing it, but reading your comments, and ignoring the snipes, it seems to me that we are playing the wrong game for Lorientes. I see him as an old school 9 in the vein of Carrol (if not as good). To get the best out of him we need to be banging in fast, hard, crosses, high and low, into the box and, As Kifflom said, stop being so intricate. Defenders hate this type of cross while center forwards love them. They cause fear and chaos when delivered right and the only player I've seen doing this is our left-back and one from Montero last week which we scored from.

Our wingers generally cut in; Routledge, and play the channels; not suited to Lorientes' style, or float crosses in; Montero, giving defenders and Goalies far to much time to adjust and defend the cross. Also floated crosses takes away the power Lorientes can apply to his header making for easy saves or misses because he's straining to get some speed on the ball.

Also, there's nothing wrong with taking the occasional shot at goal. Siggy, Fer, Ki and Cork all have decent shots in them so why not have a go from time to time, just to change things up and keep defenders and goalies guessing, just now and again.

I think we already have the squad we need and I don't see panic buying, including Bony, would help us any. We just need to settle as a team and train hard but our midfield does need to understand the type of player Lorientes is and work out ways to provide him with the bespoke service he needs to score from.

Tough six games ahead and I don't see any no need to start panicking anytime soon.

But most teams are in the same situation, if one of their influential players is injured then the back up is not as good, we cannot possibly stockpile players on the 'what if' scenario. We have the very best medical staff as backroom staff, and they have been excellent in dealing and preventing prolonged injuries.

We must rely on that instead of spending millions more on players to satisfy some fans 'what if' scenario. I mean what if all the first team players get injured? Whilst it's highly unlikely it could happen.

If after 10 games we are rock bottom and looking at our fixture list of the next 8 games it is very possible than it is not. We were clueless yesterday and we were just the same at Burnley that has given false interpretation of how we played......We lack leadership and we lack any killer instinct in the final third.. Like valley said we need a quality striker and a quality CB and we need a manager who can read the game if the system he choose to play is obviously not working to change the game...We had better put this £30m to good use but saying that it is Jenkins we have to rely on here to be able to get the right two players and im sorry but i dont have an ounce of faith in him having enough skill or knowledge to do this.....What we really need is a head of recruitment with top flight football under his belt but i cant see that happening while Jenkins is calling the shots....We may have won a game and lost one game but theses were against two sides that most teams will beat convincingly throughout the season. We can already see the ball park we are in after just two games and we look weaker than we were and that was not exactly good......Act now and spend enough money whatever it takes to bring in players we need before the window shuts....the signs are there as there is no need for excuses...
