It's funny how players like Rodwell and jones don't want to bugger off like Kone !. Offered £50,000 a week, so what was he getting ? and how much are Everton going to give him ?. This is what I see - players like O shea, Jones, Rodwell, etc will be worked back into the team, (Moyes is trying to get Rodwell to improve but it might be a lost cause) then we wind back right back to square one, relegation fight. What the hell is going on down there ?
Are you not of the same mortal plane of existence as the rest of us monty? A less likely possibility is that you live north of Sunderland.
I think We need at least 5 players (that's if no one else leaves) the closer we get to sept 1st the harder its going to be. Other teams know we are desperate so they will hold us to ransom. I would love us try and sign the below all would improve the squad and add quality and all are players we could get. That's if Short will spend around 45-50m which for 5 players is **** all considering place just spent 32m on Benteke. We have to have money to spend we've drastically reduced the wage bill and with all the tv money surely we can spend 50m RB = Trippier (Spurs) CB = Klose (Norwich) LB/LW = Brady (Norwich) CM = M'Vila FWD = Bony or Ings I remain hopeful the club will make some good signings before sept 1st. But as each day passes im getting more and more worried.
I'm watching sky Saturday where they scroll the transfers for each club on the right of the screen. Bournemouth have spent £39 million. Watford have spent over £40 million. We have spent £13.5 million. Take away the incoming fees for sold players and our net spend is about £6 million, maybe £12 million net income if Kone goes. As had been mentioned, I don't hold out much hope of anything substantial coming in, maybe a £10 million player if we can find anyone who will join us. More likely some loans, championship players and premier reserves. Last year we were all waiting on deadline day for a big signing but nothing happened. I think that's how it will go this window. We obviously cannot compete with the Watfords and Bournemouths never mind the Palaces and West Broms. West Ham, promoted not very long ago are out of sight. Our level appears to be Burnley (who have spent more than us), and Hull. Currently, we must be odds on for relegation with the above two. We can always hope but we've been here before. Maybe we'll get another lucky swap which costs us no fee such as Defoe. By the way, have we got 11 first team players fit for tomorrow?
Nacho I don't understand your comment, I live about 1 mile from the SOl by the way. The lack of ambition is why these players want to leave so Moyes better act fast in case we lose more players. I have never know anything like this before a crises already before our first home game. Another interesting point is what happens to Kone if Everton don't sign him hehe, his back will make a quick recovery I should imagine.
How much did Newcastle spend last season? What happened to them? The answer to your last question is yes, by the way. Are you constantly miserable?
I was having a bit of fun with your "what the hell is going on down there" comment, picturing you sitting up in the clouds, possibly with a fishing rod. I agree with what you're saying in all seriousness. It's a shocking state of affairs.
I was trying to answer a question by Comm. Is there anything there that is not basically true or highly likely. I think we have 14 first teamers (counting the 2 goalies) so if all are fit then yes, we have a side but we are desperately low on fit players to pick from. No, I'm not constantly miserable. Just giving out my view on this forum. I want what we all want, an improved SAFC but so far, with 11 days left in the window, we don't have it.
The window ain't closed yet, so lets see where we are this time next week. Then you'll know who we compare to in terms of net spending. I don't know what you are suggesting is, or will be, highly likely? We spend less than any other club this transfer window or we spend least well relative to what we need? In terms of the latter, it shouldn't really matter to us what others do - spending does not guarantee success. Yeah, orher teams will strengthen, but i'd rather see what Motes manages to get done before writing him/us off. Intetesting to see Burnley doing Liverpool over by half-time. They're probably lose 2:3 now i've said that!!
We are one of 3 clubs worldwide (may now be 4 if ManUtd aren't one of the other two) who can say they have at some time held the world record transfer fee for both buying a player and selling a player (not the same one, and not holding records at simultaneously) No, I cannot remember the who's and whens -- going to take some googling.
Let's hope we do see some movement before the window ends. I do seem to remember but correct me if I'm wrong, last season's window where we were waiting for some marquee signing as the window was ending, but it didn't happen. When I said about the true or highly likely, it was about Watford and Bournemouth, the amount they have spent so far compared to the amount we have spent. Palace and West Brom have spent more. Of course you're right that spending doesn't guarantee performances and the great example you gave was the mags. However, we always seem to be trying to do things on the cheap. Since ES took over our annual net spend on transfers has been less than £5 million although I haven't seen the transfer spend table that includes our January dealings so that is not included. It would be great if we could do things on the cheap and get very good players in for peanuts. It works sometimes (Phillips and Kirchhoff) but most often you get what you pay for. It's true some expensive players don't produce though. To prove your point, both Burnley and Hull have both won, however, I doubt they will finish in the top 14. We'll see how it turns out in ten days time but for (miserable) me, going on past Windows, I'll be surprised if we match Bournemouths spend. Anyway Nordic, let's hope for the best.
Was looking at a website the other day, I doubt it's 100% reliable but it must be pretty close, but our net spend since Keane went crazy that year, is £120m on transfers. 1: No wonder we fight relegation every season. 2: Im not expecting millions to be spent this window Hope Short proves me wrong, but its a bit depressing.
Fair points. I think we'll always be doing things frugally, under Short. Maybe I should be expecting more, but I'd like to think Moyes can build a solid long-term squad and first team with youth comining through and canny purchases. I've given up on buying our way up the league.. I don't recall any 'glamour purchases' working out for us, longer-term. Maybe a few short-term (Bent, Gyan, Kone!!) but they never stick around. I'd rather we did without them as much as possible... more fool me though... We'll see how it pans out. Hopefully for the better of the club starting with a win tomorrow to give us a boost.
That would be great. Seems to me like forever we`ve either got good players in who get better and leave us to move up, or players coming in at the end of their careers who come here on the way down. A long term settled squad would be something of a novelty.
I reckon we have the money on standby but only for the players we want. Our record isn't great in transfer dealings so Moyes maybe feels he would rather spend wisely than we have in the past. A four contract at a huge wage is what wrecks clubs like ours.
We have went backwards bringing Moyes in, I hope we can get Sam back after he gets sacked as England manager in 2 years time.
