Jo Joyce just won his semi final in the super heavyweight boxing. But not very impressive so only expecting the silver
Nick struggling to keep it together during the National Anthem. Very emotional moment. Both horse and rider came back from potentially career ending injuries. Fantastic stuff
When the football World Cup is staged, we can be sure that the host can afford it, as FIFA has sold the next two events to the highest bidders, one of them not even a footballing country. Rio Paralympics to be downsized amid disappointing ticket sales The International Olympic Committee (IOC) do not decide venues for the Olympics with any apparent consideration for whether the host can complete the job. Brazil is mired in political upheaval and most of her population live in poverty. Tickets for the Olympic Games were priced way beyond the means of the average Brazilian and many of the events have been heavily under subscribed, although Brazil’s football matches still packed stadia. Protests by the public have gained little coverage in the media whilst, presumably not just in Great Britain, there has been extensive coverage of medals won. Now it transpires that the upcoming Paralympics are in serious financial jeopardy. Only 12 per cent of tickets have been sold, so many events are going to look very empty. Also, according to Channel 4 News, ten of the countries cannot actually afford to travel to Brazil because the funding money has disappeared in the Brazilian Olympic organisation. The Paralympics may end up being a heavily reduced schedule because the host is broke and the organisers have corruptly used the funds on the (excuse the political incorrectness) able-bodied event. A spokesman for the IOC appeared on Channel 4 News but would not criticise Brazil despite being offered plenty of opportunity to name names – clearly they do not want to say anything whilst the Olympics are ongoing and the investigation that is to come will undoubtedly be a whitewash. The 2020 host is Tokyo and we can be assured that they will find sufficient corporate sponsors to run the event. No doubt the IOC are looking at awarding the 2024 games to somewhere like Burkina Faso.
Who the **** put show jumping in the modern pentathlon. Just seen about ten riders getting dumped off the horse. ****ing idiots aboard them look like they've never been on a horse before. Seen three or four of them hanging off their bridle after they got thrown off. It would be funny if you didn't give a crap about horses. It's bordering animal cruelty.
Showjumping has always been part of the Modern Pentathlon and has always been a shambles. 90% of the participants look to barely know one end of a horse from the other.
Pierre de Coubertin added it to the modern version. The old pentathlon used by the ancient Greeks sought to use all the necessary skills needed in battle, the modern version has since added what we see today to test athletes further but still along the same lines of requiring what skills a soldier may need to escape/fight a war.
Oh I dunno, Ouagadougou has some interesting bars, a good time can be had by all there, at least in the old days anyway.......
First time I've watched it to be honest. It was awful watching. They showed a little montage of some of the worst riders. They didn't seem to have any idea of what they were doing. They just ran the horses at the fences and hoped the horse would sort themselves out. I don't know why people would enter it if they aren't some way competent at each of the events.
GB girls win the gold in hockey. Very exciting. 3-2 down, equalised and then won the penalty shoot out
In the modern pentathlon the horses are provided for the competitors at the event and they only get 20 mins to get acquainted. Its a lottery what horse you get and if it is any good
Damned if I know. Maybe the 10,000 finished her. She attempted the world record for the 10k not long before the games, so who knows. But it was a real let down though.
Wallabies just running on the big clash against the All Blacks in Sydney. Another flogging I suppose.
