I've always seen it as listed by Golds, then silvers, then bronze. That's the official table. The only countries that would list it otherwise are those who aren't ever quite good enough.
It wouldn't make a whole lot of difference except China would be 2nd and GB 3rd and a few of the countries who have picked up only a few golds would move up due to the number of silver and bronze that they have won. In fact looking down the complete list out of the 76 countries that have won medals so far only 16 of them are in double figures for total medals won.......
I wondered whether it should be the number of golds, or the total number of medals, or if points or some sort of weighting should be applied to each medal. In the end I concluded that I couldn't give a ****.
The ticket scandal story is gaining legs. Pat Hickey has now been formally charged by the Brazilian police. The charges relate to facilitating ticket touting, formation of a cartel and ambush or illicit marketing. If found guilty, he could face up to 7 years in prison. This man is not only President of the Irish Olympic Committee. He is also an executive member of the International Olympic Committee. If he has his finger in the "ticket pie", that would beg the question, who else is making a few bob out of the Olympics. Hopefully this is the start of cleaning the whole thing up. With the allegations of corruption in FIFA and now the Olympics, it appears that the biggest sporting events worldwide are being run by Administrators who are in it for what they can get out of it.
Must admit Ubes I wouldn't wish commuting on anyone these days.......a few weeks ago we did the overnight coach from Waterford to London Victoria and it took us 2 hours to get from Reading to London due to a smash on the M4 between the 2 Reading junctions, the build up of traffic was horrendous at 7am when we were trying to rejoin the motorway having done a pick up at the new Park & Ride stop on the Basingstoke Road.......
See McIlroy posted a tweet simply saying "#karma" before quickly deleting it........what could he possibly mean? This ticket scandal is more murky than The Liffey, we'll probably find plenty of snouts in the trough before long.......
Another odd thing...... Lochte ordered to give up passport Posted at16:10 Getty Images A Brazilian judge has ordered that the passports of American swimmers Ryan Lochte and James Feigen be seized as authorities investigate their claim they were robbed at gunpoint during the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The office of Judge Keyla Blank confirmed the request Wednesday in a statement, but Rio police did not say whether the order was carried out. Lochte's attorney, Jeff Ostrow, has said there is no question the robbery happened.
I agree with Mc Ilroy. Pat Hickey has being parading around the place like lord Muck for god knows how many years. They had the inaugural European Games in Azerbaijan last year which was like a mini Olympics for European countries. I think Hickey is President of the European Olympic Committee and he sat there beside the Azerbaijani President for the entire 2 weeks. In an interview, I heard Hickey say that it was his second visit to Azerbaijan as the country's President had invited him there for the Eurovision Song Contest a few years previously. What has the Eurovision song contest got to do with sport? No wonder, Azerbaijan were awarded the inaugural games. The stink of corruption coming out of Rio is atrocious.
The thing with all these people in power they believe themselves to be untouchable, but as was proved with Blatter, Platini and all the others at the top in FIFA they do eventually get caught.........this story about the tickets has plenty of miles in it still to go......
I am sure there are a few other IOC executive members who are in hiding at the moment. This is just the start I would imagine.
Feck that for a game of soldiers Ubes.........there has to be better alternatives to that.......time for a radical re-think me thinks as you can't keep that going too long........
These GCSE classes start earlier and earlier Seriously, though, Uber, big respect to you for such an early start - in winter, you'll have four hours before it gets light! If you grow fangs and start wearing a cloak, see a doctor. It's this American business culture that's crept in and, I suppose, global financial markets I usually manage 6.00am and that feels like the crack of dawn
There are so many empty seats at a lot of the Olympic events he is probably going to be charged with giving them away as he couldn't find buyers!
By happy coincidence that old crook Joao Havelange has died - he resigned from both FIFA and the IOC when they were on to him on bribery charges. He was also Blatter's mentor, which is condemnation enough.
I used to be up very early as well but we had to to catch the European markets. We would leave early as the next real business was Asia
According to the latest radio reports when police arrived at his hotel room, his wife told them that he'd already left the country to return to Ireland, but then they found him in another hotel room........... You couldn't make it up.......
