The benefit it might have is in receiving an inflated price for him. Good team performance = increased individual price. If he goes. Vin
He could become good, and if he doesn't what good does that do for me when I'm aging and my memory is fading and I have no idea who he is and that would be a tenner wasted
Meh, I think we've seen the best of Fonte now; it's probably about the right time to be looking to replace him regardless of whether he wants to go. We'll miss his leadership and professionalism, but if he's not going to demonstrate that anyway selling him for a younger, fresher replacement will be no great loss. And someone else will be ready to step up to his dressing room leadership role.
I've had Phillips, Surman, Gaston and Osvaldo on my shirts. Thinking either Long, hojberg or Bertrand on the latest shirt. _______________________________ Please don't get either of those. I'd really prefer them to work out well.
I take it you must thought about having Turnball on your shirt then bang 5 mins later he's off to Coventry
I don't know if I can be arsed with any more players, pushing for moves. He's near the end of his career. Tell him to sign a new contract, with the associated pay rise, or make him see out the last two years of his current contract, with no pay rise, playing with the U23s, then disappear into oblivion. If we do succumb to any request for a move, then just make it as difficult for him and Manure as is humanly possible, with no deal sanctioned before the last hour and last day of the window, assuming he has been adequately replaced before then. Failing that tell him no sale until January, then we'll see if he is still wanted elsewhere.
I get the sentiment, but we would be somewhat biting our noses off to spite our face. We're paying Fonte a lot of money. We could waste that money with him parked on the bench, and unable to move because his golden shot has disappeared (therefore wasting money next year as well). Or we could get out from under that contract and as a bonus have an extra 10m in our pockets to boot. And IMO, the pay rise is off the table. It was contingent upon him being the captain, icon, yaddayadda. Now he's just a decent 32 year old CB near the end of his career who apparently isn't even that happy here. So in that respect, we're already paying him too much right now. No reason to throw good money after bad. Especially when Man U can rescue us from a bad deal by taking him off our hands.
There goes the last playing link to the "together as one" days and not a single player that left us has been a success. This one hurts though because I believed in Jose's character, he always said and acted the right way and I thought that he genuinely loved the club like SKD. Football at the top level stinks, it's selfish, amoral and cuthroat. Will we ever find the likes of Tiss, Franny, Claus and Doddsy again?
or make him see out the last two years of his current contract, with no pay rise, playing with the U23s, then disappear into oblivion _________________________________________________ Hmmmm, £80K x 104 = No freaking chance we will let that happen. Dani & Gaston need to be our biggest ever mistakes for at least another five years!
PFA etc would get involved if we relegated him into the u23s and he would get a free transfer. As I said players have all the power.
