Call me Mackem anytime & I will take it as a compliment even though I'm not one. It separates us lot from your lot which is good enough for me Mr Chummanley-Warner.
You normally seem like a reasonable bloke but your insistence that we should be offended by the word is tiresome and a bit sad. Maybe you should listen to your target audience when they're telling you that we don't find it insulting in the slightest. I know you won't though and you'll cling onto it for whatever reason.
I first heard the expression in the 1940s the phrase used at that time was we Makem and Takem , so when did you first hear it ? at a time when anyone from the North East of England was a Geordie , and a big proportion of Sunderland supporters were from Gateshead
Im not a Mackem, borne and raised in Blyth but my dad is, I have no idea how the term Mackem could be derogatory, surely the building of the ship's was the more important job, rather than putting some table and chairs and maybe a bar in it once it was built. If that story is true to how the name came about. Maybe it was the Geordies that coined the term, maybe it was meant as a piss take, but it doesnt make sense, doesn't work, and kind of backfired on them imo.
If there was a "National Geordie Day" you lot would have a field day ffs. Deluded, who the **** do you think you are? etc. No denying.
You mean like this. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/howay-man-like-its-national-9669131
So Newcastle haven't just had their 2nd national Geordie on the 16th of July? You don't need to answer. They have. Making yourself look a right clip on this thread marra. Is this last season bitterness coming through I wonder? If people want to have a national day for their town let em. Not for me but fortunately Darlo will never have one. Just let people be and stop being such a prick about it.
F*ck. Never heard heard of that one. Anyway, moving on. Did you know the word "mackem" is an offensive term?
You really need something to cling on to don't you mate? I always had you down as a level headed, reasonable man but you're just making yourself look like an utter fool. This is the second time you've brought this up in two weeks. Bless. You thought you'd found an age old word that would piss us off when in fact most of us wear it with pride. Now your bottom lip is tripping you up, I feel for you. PM me your number, my daughter is a psychologist, I can put you in touch. If I were you I'd just let it drop before you make yourself look an even bigger cock.
Only when used by intellectually challenged Skunks, marra . . . . the rest of the country's use of the term is in reference to Sunderland A.F.C. supporters ('cos they simply don't understand it's derivation or true meaning) The civilised of us up here know that it refers to someone who is from the city of Sunderland, which is not necessarily associated with actually supporting our team
