Looks like he's off to Leicester.

So, having missed out on Gameiro, Girvinho and Erdinc also, what striker do we really have we any realistic chance of signing?

With everything going on at the club, with Carroll and Nobby's departures, Enrique's and Barton's imminent departures, and a dictatorial regime at the top, what attraction do we hold for an established 20 goal a season man?

We wont get an established 20 goal a season striker, mostly because they are very, very rare and expensive. We should still have more targets, cant think of any I'd want though.

The only players who got 20+ last season were Tevez and Berbatiov though, and Bent was playing every week.

List of 20+ goalscorers in last 5 seasons:

    2006/07 - Drogba (20)
    2007/08 - Ronaldo (31), Torres (24), Adebayor (24)
    2008/09 - None!
2009/10 - Drogba (29), Rooney (26), Bent (24), Tévez (23), Lampard (22) (This is what happens when our amazing defence isn't around to stop these guys ;))
    2010/11 - Berbatov (20), Tévez (20)

Meh not that bothered.. why pay 7m for a unproven striker at this level when for that same price you could get about 2 Vossen's or Tiote-esque signings!

    Shane Long = Media Hype!

Are we talking league goals only because even the top 4 sides probably don't have them, the league is not like that. A 20 goal a season striker means scoring 20 goals over the course of a season for your club, not only in the league. At least it would to me. Bent spent the first half of it last year moping around in that shanty town down the road. Even then I think he got 17 league goals and 20 goals overall. When he has played regualrly and been happy in the PL, he is a 20 goal a season striker.

People need to calm down about the ''20 goal a season striker''.. It's OVERRATED!

As long as we end in the top 10 and make some progress I don't care who BAGS the goals for us!

I'm tempted to hand in a brochure <whistle>

If Owen can convince Fergie, then i'm sure i can convince the baffoons at our club that i'm a 'world class' 'fox-in-the-box' 'clean' 'fresh' and 'cool' guy too <cool>:emoticon-0143-smirk

That's fine, except we have lost our 15(?) goal midfielder too.

2 goals since Carroll left. Nolan is better suited to Big Sam's hoofball, and we're turning into a passing/possession side.

I think your points a valid one. I mean we NEED a striker and thats a fact. Maybe a 20 goal a season striker is a little bit of a sky reporters myth but still his point is valid. If he goes to Leicester we are missing out on a potential good striker that we currently need.

Remember Andy Cole was a chamionship player (with us) before he got premiership football and scoring bags of goals. Long IS a good player who would impove our first 11.

We ain't gonna be in the top ten realistically. We had a better team at the start of last season and didn't manage it, and last year was a bit of freak league due to the bad starts made by the likes of Liverpool, Everton, Villa. I'd be happy just to survive.
