Stella has been fiddled with nowadays. The old 5.2% stuff is rarely sold, I think it's 4.8% now (iirc). I think it got a bit of a bad reputation because people like Custard were drinking it by the bucket and bashing people up.
I didn't look but to be fair it didn't taste as rancid as it used to. I like it bottled, out of cans or out of a pub tap it is usually ****ing horrible.
I remember watching some news report on Stella a few years back with a bloke saying "I normally go out drinking and am fine, but Stella has some chemicals in it or something that makes me go crazy and start fighting" My thoughts were: 1. BS 2. Why the **** would you ever drink Stella again if you genuinely thought that was the case?!
Stella was a problem years ago because of the strength simple as that, Brits drink like idiots and it was too strong.
Go to France in one week. Can't ****ing wait man. Will be two weeks there then a week to ten days in Basque and Cantabria. Got no idea if there is a regional beer there but I'll find out. I will also report back. Especially after a few tapas in San Sebastian.
Sounds great, get yourself on a sherry tasting tour in a bodegas. It's supposed to be brilliant to do. @Chief
Just back from ten very nice days in Greece. Off to the IOW on Saturday. In laws live there. I'd happily rent a place and spend most of the summer there so I can see the sea but we can only go for a few days as the ****ing cats have to go to the cattery. I really ****ing hate those cats.
Got a Thuros mini BBQ. Very good when it's just us having sausages and a chicken kebab. please log in to view this image
Just got back from ten very nice days in Rhodes and Athens. Absolutely loved Rhodes. My first time in Greece. Discovered Moussaka which I've never had before, but liked very much. Tbf I found I had little appetite out there although I couldn't fault the food. Maybe just the heat, I was happily content on a decent breakfast and an evening meal despite the amount I was sweating out, but it was all good.
Yeh definitely, I was hooked, and the place I had it at did good, authentic food. I thought that was the case at most of the places I ate at on the island, although I wasn't sure if I'd lucked out.
As we're all in holiday mode, I'm currently in Biarritz. Haven't eaten out properly yet although had a couple of decent pizza's. Took three days getting down here and stayed in places on the hoof, all of them good. This one place in rural France was beautiful, we'd have stayed another night but it would have meant travelling too far on a Saturday so moved on. Had a basque beer last night. Tasted superb as I'd been driving for six hours in blistering heat so will have another couple later and taste rather than just neck. And I'll tell you all about it!
It's falling over juice. Had a few of them a couple of years ago in Spain. They were in my local bar in the village where my folks lived. The bottles were covered in dust. I had three and my mouth disconnected with my brain pretty swiftly. Though I had already been drinking draught mahou.
