http://www.ealinggazette.co.uk/spor...oss-wants-three-more-signings-64767-29167809/ NEIL Warnock wants to have three more signings in place before next week's Premier League opener against Bolton. The QPR boss wants another striker, a winger and a keeper to complete his squad for the forthcoming campaign. Rangers have already agreed a deal for DJ Campbell, while Warnock is also interested in Southampton winger Jason Puncheon. Former Ipswich shotstopper Brian Murphy is also set for talks with the club this week. “We're looking to bring in three more players before the start of the season,” said Warnock. “We would like to bring a striker in, a wide player and a keeper.” This would mean aside from Gabbidon we wont have made any changes to the defence. CB's are OK although not ideal but I can live with it however it means that we only have two out and out fullbacks. Orr and Borrowdale and he's not in the squad! Hill played LB but in reality is a CB (same as Ramage and Connolly) and doesnt have anywhere near the pace required to deal with Lennon, Walcott etc. With the Onouha deal "off" and Naughton at Norwich what are we going to do for full backs if anything? What do you guys think and what ideally would you want??
We have - ****tu Hill Hall Gabbidon Orr The Ram Gorkss Connolly Thats 8 players plus theres always Mackie as a wingback and are we still looking at Webber?
Of that list I'd only be confident in one possibly two being good enough for the PL. All Colins focus seems to be on attacking type players whereas we desperately need full backs and centre backs.
Think it's crazy starting the season with Hill/Orr being first choice FB's - think there's a strong possibility of them being extremely exposed particularly with the lack of pace. I'm a strong believer that you start with strengthening the back before anywhere else - can't see the philosophy of Blackpool working for us (didn't for them). Had hoped we'd look something like: Bertrand Kenny Bassong Gorks/Connelly Naughton Which would be a lot stronger than what we're going in with.
None of the 8 players listed above are good enough to play as a wingback in the premier league. Unless warnock signs a left and right back before the start of the season, we are in big trouble. Imagine clint hill trying to keep tabs on walcott? All that will happen is the other team will run at our wing backs early doors, draw the yellow card and then continue to run past them all day. Dyer and Mackie are not right backs. They are decent players who can 'do a job' there but nothing further.
Hill is going to be roasted but until he is he deserves a chance to prove us wrong. Nevertheless, our shortage of full-backs is criminal.
I trust NW, he put together the best defence in the Championship last season - and yet, I share all the concerns above - we could be found out at the back big time. NW must surely have been holding something back with that latest quote. If we can see the obvious, surely he can...
We have a large group of CB's, mainly of middling quality but I guess (hope?) we can get away with that. However, I agree with Swords, our lack of (specialist) FB's is criminal. Warnock seems to like bringing in forwards and wide men and overlooks the defence: I can't understand it but he seemed to know what he was doing last season!
What is wrong with being right, Swords ? If you got it, then flaunt it!|! even if you haven't, still flaunt it!!
