18 points, which is 2 points per game average. Typically guarantees you champions league football or last season 2nd place.

Obviously Utd can do no wrong on any issue as far as their commercial arm at Salford Quays are concerned.

    1. its a manc plant journo pumping out propaganda

    2. trying to claim they can afford it so that makes it a bargain... eh no.. affordability is nothing to do with bargain or value. If a billinaire buys a yacht for 50 mil and the guy next to him gets identical one for 35 mill ones got a bargain and if the next guy gets one for 150mil thats the same he has not... simple.. city bought gundogan for what? 21million... not that... thats a bargain.

    Fair play <applause>

Others who have turned it down...

    • LS Lowry - the painter turned down a total of five honours, including an OBE in 1955, a CBE in 1961 and a knighthood in 1968
    • Benjamin Zephaniah - the poet spurned an OBE in 2003 saying it stood for colonial brutality and slavery
    • David Bowie - the music legend turned down a CBE in 2000
    • Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders - the comedy duo refused OBEs in 2001
    • John Lennon - the Beatles legend returned his MBE four years after accepting it in 1965 in protest against the Vietnam and Biafran wars
    • JG Ballard - the writer rejected a CBE saying he was opposed to the "preposterous charade" of the honours system

Like.... i get the thing and i think thats really principled and good and I don't agree with a class system that makes a "sir" some sort of voer lord for being a crony of a pm or whatever... but.....

there's surely some value in a "new" system to break this colonial thing as an award or recognition for good work in the community is a nice thing surely?

The problem is the BE british empire. order, member of kinght of the realm or whatever...

It'd be nice if they has a medal or soemthing thats not a order of whatever and leave the barons and the stuck up noses to their troughs.

Yep I was thinking the same. Get rid of the British Empire and call it something else with the overarching terminology of "honours" like now.

I'd say keep that ****e for the toffs so we can amrk them down for arresting when the revolution comes.

Then have a medal for the milkmen and lollipop ladies that do their job for 40 years and someone puts them in....

I fail to understand why a footballer like gerrard or beckham who got so richly rewarded for kicking a ball get gongs for the sake of it while others have to go out of their way to serve and better the community.

or bowie or any ****ing stupid PM crony who got well paid to do a job.

Because he was being awarded it for the work he does on Kick Racism Out of Football and felt the need to explain it publicly? Or perhaps he just wanted to stick two fingers up publicly to something that went against his principles? I don't see what he has to gain from announcing it at all. Do you really think he needs or wants attention for the sake of it?
