McNair and Love are both going to struggle for first team football at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho and Moyes believes they are good enough to play in the Premier League after monitoring their process when he was United manager. McNair was a regular in the first team squad under Louis van Gaal last season, while Love made two appearances under the Dutchman. Neither of the defensive duo played under Moyes, but he was aware of their presence in the youth team and hopes to persuade them to continue their development in the North East. A joint fee of around £8 million is thought to have been agreed with United and it is now up to the players to decide if they want to leave Old Trafford. Sunderland, though, are confident both want to sign as, at thre age of 21, they need to be playing regularly in the Premier League rather than remain in the development squad. Centre-back McNair is a Northern Ireland international but despite earning praise from Van Gaak, he is not thought to be in Mourinho’s plans for the new season following the arrival of Eric Bailly. Scotland under-21 international Love is a full-back and will also struggle for regular first team football following the return to fitness of Luke Shaw. The arrival of McNair could hasten the departure of Senegal defender Lamine Koné from the Stadium of Light. Everton have offered £18m plus add ons for Kone but Sunderland wanted to find a replacement before allowing the transfer to go through. Koné only joined Sunderland for £5m in January, moving from French club Lorient, and although the Premier League club would rather not lose him after he played such a key role in securing their top flight status under former manager Sam Allardyce, Moyes believes he can use the money to strengthen elsewhere.
