I didn't think he had a poor Euros. He didn't have a good final, but still looked special in a couple of games .. when played in his best position. He has the ability and stature to be a beast.

Anyway, back to Gabbiadini, is anyone aware if we are actually interested, or if this is simply internet tat? Still relatively young, and can seemingly play in multiple attacking positions; two things that get a big tick from me.

Gabbiadini hasn't played all that much, owing to Napoli's strength up front, but he has been productive. 26 goals in ~3000 minutes (including Europe) over the past two seasons is about as good a return as one can expect.

If my maths is correct - that's a very good scoring ratio.

Extremely good. That said, it'd be a bit of a surprise if they shipped him out given that the hole left by Higuain probably won't be filled by Milik alone...you'd think that they would want to see whether Gabbiadini can be as productive in a larger role, because they probably aren't going to get full value in transfer given that the raw numbers were in (understandably) limited minutes.

I think West Ham have just put in a 25 million bid to every team in Europe.

Genuine question: Is this the most boring Southampton transfer window of all time?

There have been so few rumours to get excited about. We have only had a couple of Saint ...! threads. Terrible.

So projections show that in his first season Pogba is expected to earn Man Utd approximately £40m in commercial income.

It's not just his revenue value in shirt sales but the global image of the club, to attract more valuable sponsorship added to that all that the PR or free advertising around the world every time his his name is mentioned and linked to the club, which is priceless.

I'm calling it: Ross McCormack to a relegated Watford next season for £92m.

No this is back to normal service perhaps we have got used to half the team being sold and managers disappearing. So far I am managing to stave off the near heart attacks of the last few summer transfer windows. I don't think the Everton man could have improved on last year without the club doing a pompey and Redknap.

Man U sell about 1.5m shirts a year in total, so no single player would sell, say, half a million alone in a single season, I wouldn't think (could be wrong). Although over a lifetime at the club - if he's successful - Pogba has age on his side to outsell Ibrahimovic shirts. Even Morgan moved into the top 50 biggest selling shirts in the world when he moved to Man U. Am sure that dropped off pretty soon after, though.

I confess I am underwhelmed. I am not an advocator of 'splashing the cash' as so many teams desperate to establish themselves in the EPL are - we have all seen the folly of this approach and am amazed how many teams have not learnt that lesson. That said, given the income from the three sales this summer, plus the huge boost in income from the new television deal, I am surprised that we have not released more funds for buying players to maintain our top six status and funding our Euro campaign. The Board know best, but I am, like you, surprised we have not been more active than we have. Some will make reference to the contract extensions that we have made with almost all are key players (Fonte - please read and take note) - which is very important for stability - but the commitment to new blood does seem not to be a such a priority - which, again, I am surprised.

Is it just me or are we missing something about shirts sold? Maybe I am being naive, but wouldn't Man U sell those shirts anyway? I'm sure we sell x amount of shirts and just whoever is flavour of the year people get their name on it. Eg last year loads of shirts with Mane on, this year with Redmond on or just blank? How many extra shirts are sold because of a player? I have a Man U supporting mate and he buys a shirt every year, and just gets who ever is the main man on the back each year. He won't buy an extra one just because Pogba has signed.

Negotiating with clubs for top quality players is a slow process. If we just took any player because they were easy to get hold of we'd drop through the leagues like a stone.

I'm hopeful we are putting in bids for top players while trying not to come across as desperate. The clubs we approach may not want to sell their stars....so we better our offer and make them.....I hope.

WHU are now approaching a very wealthy club status; over 50K season ticket holders and a ground that cost them near nothing to occupy - I an see them leap frogging us this season. Given the current setup - they are looking like a top six side. They could, of course, implode given bringing too many signings - but they have astute (if dis-likable) management and a good manager. They are a definite threat to us this season.

If a club really wants to maximise profits from shirt sales, they need to be buying players with long surnames. Bradley Wright-Phillips could be a real winner in this market. Perhaps that's why he's a big star in New York, where they know a thing or two about getting the value.
