Anyone think we can qualify then? I look at the team especially with the two new lads and think we can. If we get through the next 7 games and were still in the top 8-9, with the remaining fixtures we could make it, yet I still expect somehow we will mess it up:emoticon-0108-speec

As Sessegnon has said today why not?

We are over halfway and still in 6th so we have a great chance.

We have a very tough 7games coming up if we are in the top 6/7 after the Man City game I think we will qualify.

Need 10points from next 7games and we will be fine

Don't we need two top 4 sides to contest the FA Cup final to give a Euroleague place to 7th?

People are forgetting we tend to turn up to the bigger games and often come away with some points, we could probably get just as many points in the next 7 as in the last.

The question is, is our squad ready yet? It's the strongest it's ever been but good enough to compete in both europe and the PL? Don't think we're quite at that level yet.

Having said that we are getting closer, we have seen today we can now attract and sign top class players to the club and if we do get europe this season and make a further 2-3 quality signings in the summer than who knows?

Were definitely not ready in terms of the squad to compete in both. I think we would be stretched like Fulham were. I still desperately want us in there though. To be able to go to Europe and support us in a competative game would be fantastic. I have four days holiday left to book this year and Im reluctant to book them until I know whats happening:laugh:

And Arsenal to win the Carling Cup. At the moment only 5th definitely gets you in.

Agree although I believe our squad at the moment is better than Fulhams and we would cope better.

I agree we're not ready but I'm sure if we had european footy to offer then we'd attract an even higher class of players.

Quillips, that is a valid point.
I have been "anti-Europe - far too soon" but I am changing my mind.

We need to test the theory and the only way to do that is to qualify and see what happens.
I don't agree with the opinions I have seen expressed elsewhere that mere qualification for the Europa league would raise our profile. I saw no star signings arriving at Craven Cottage, for example.

But maybe Mr Short might need proof of the extra level of investment required to compete regularly at that level and beyond.

It seems to me that he is taking the possibility of qualification seriously and actively wants to get there. What happens if/when we do is anybody's guess.

As you say, Chelski, Spuds, Citeh, Gooners and Pool to name a few in the next 7 games, after that we will know....p.s. I am not expecting us to go down this season Har Har..see how the new boys settle in and if we get ano striker, its goals and clean sheets

No. That only applies for the FA Cup, not the Carling.

Not even sure it applies for the FA Cup any more.

Hopefully we get a taste for it and investment in the team is increased and then we break into the top four in around 5 seasons time. Thats what my heart says at least. Head says we will struggle to qualify this year and if we do it will have a negative effect on League position next year. Still its nice to dream.<laugh>

Why not? We all tend to talk our chances down thanks to years of disappointment... time to start believing and who knows we might just achieve our dream!
