I do hope we sign a CB, be nice to have a good young CB, capablr of challanging fonte/vvd.

 

Indeed, I've said before how concerned I am about Jay. Is it about confidence or about how much he can push his body to fitness.? I only need to look at him for a few minutes to realise he's not at it.

Charlie Austin is a great goalscorer, or that I have no doubt, and have admired his ability for years. But as a player in a current Saints team, playing the way they have done in the last few years, I do have a concern. I don't quite know where he ideally fits.

Apparently a interview with Fonte on Ojogo.

However, in football you never know what can happen and it’s obvious that if a world class club who play in the Champions League show up, it’s tempting for me. But I state it again, I’m happy where I am.”

Sounds to me like someone who's agent informed him about an interest from a top side and is now carefully weighing his words.

 

Basically saying what most of us knew, if there is actual real interest from a Man Utd then he would want to hear what they have to say. Based on these comments it seems unlikely that he would be in a big rush to move to Everton, but what footballers say and actually do are usually 2 different things

 

Man United aren't in the Champions League.

 

Fonte has been incredible for us but no player stays forever anymore, Lambert,Lallana, Schneiderlin we all wanted them to stay but look what happened. Fonte will go if offered a dream move as will every single one of our players. Saints have the capability to keep players for 2-3 seasons but until we are able to win trophies or qualify for champions league this is the way it will be.

 

Don't know if this rumour has been posted or has any legs but imagine this guy lining up with VVD ................ talk about the "Dutch Wall" !!!

Agree. Man Utd are not a Champions League club and Fonte is getting on. Think it will take more than that to prise him away but wonder if Pepe has had words with Zidane about his qualities? Would be a good back up there

Haven't found the Ojogo interview yet, but he has been having lots of interviews on there lately, so wouldn't call it made up. (all in Portugese obviously.)

 

Been proved false sadly. Puel said "Fonte is our captain and a important player for us" so Sky ****ed it up.

 

The story is still on their site. I didn't see the interview but it only says 'expects' so that covers just about every eventuality I suppose.

 

The guy that did the interview said he couldn't understand Puel sometimes, so got confused...

So basically he ****ed the interview up big time.

 

That's unfair. If they use all their fingers and thumbs they get to at least 12 (Spoken like a true Islander, giving high sixes all over the place)

 

Beef, is the CB only a straight replacement if Fonte goes? Or, is there any chance we might sign a younger CB to challenge Fonte/Van Dijk while waiting in the wings for a season or so?​

 

We have been scouting younger cbs for a while now. The cbs we have been linked to ( like Hoedt) would be back up.

 

Thanks beefy. How confident are you that we'll sign both a #10, and a wide attacking player/winger? Would be great news if true regards depth/competition in those positions.

 

If a move was in the works, we'd have named a new captain by now.
