    Good morning H Bomb. <ok>

If ever there is a subject that always gets my attention, this is it.

These days, I'm pretty sure that I'm in a minority that continues to get smaller. For me it's country before club every time.

As I see it, the international game is the nearest thing to real representative football that is not governed by the size of a purse. You can't buy international success. An international team is made up of people who want to be there - not journeymen or glory seekers.

As for friendlies, well I think Wales suffers from the classic chicken and egg syndrome and is generally only well supported when there is already an element of success or when we play the biggest footballing nations. To get a decent international team together, we have to play friendlies - we can't have it both ways.

As a small country with a propencity for the oval shaped ball, ther are going to be long spells when we have shortages of talent and this is a situation that is not helped by some clubs and certain players themselves.

I could write chapters on how I feel about this, but you get the gist.

Lets support Wales because we are welsh.

Country comes first. I haven't missed an international at the millenium since I started going in 2000 :)

Morning clingo - good response View attachment 6145

Personally, I'm on the club before country bus. It doesn't make me any less Welsh but in the last 35+ years, the Bluebirds have always stirred more passion in me than the Welsh National Team.

I'll always support the National team and I agree that friendlies play an important part in the development of the younger players/squad building etc but it's the scheduling of them that winds me up at times. I know the domestic calendar is pretty much full these days but there has to be a better way of scheduling friendlies. In this case, not on the same night as a Cup competition starts. I don't know who's fixtures were drawn up first but lack of communication springs to mind.....or maybe I'm just a rambling fool who wants to see the strongest side out every game :D

    Country always before club. <ok>

Unfortunately we have lacked having a fully fit/Strength team for quite some time. My only concern is why the HELL are we having a friendly at the beginning of the domestic season. Proves pointless but that's just my opinion.

    Morning Clingo

I like to see Wales doing well obviously, but like H I'm club before country, I take your point and your arguments are valid, but I can't get too excited about international football to be honest, I used to love the Home Internationals as a kid, but even then Wales didn't get me going as much as Cardiff City did (and still does)

The old question comes to mind, would you rather see your country win the World Cup or your Club win the League?

Not that that's a quandry as Welshmen and Cardiff fans that we will have to face ;)

Club before country for me. Never really had to worry about it in the past as we didn't usually have a big enough contingent to affect our team. In those days and today I follow the Wales games but they do not get me that fired up.

    Hi again H Bomb.

Sorry I take so long to reply - I have precious little time on computers these days.

Anyway, I take your point and hope that you didn't think that I was questioning your pride as a welshman.

I just think that for a country like ours, the money in the club game has had a huge detrimental effect on the attitudes of players and supporters toward our national team. Like I say, I could go on for hours, as Proph will confirm. <laugh> How ya doin' proph?

Hi Clingo. no problem mate. I didn't think that at all.
It's all about opinions and preferences and I guess the bottom line is if both did well we'd all be happy View attachment 6183
