No need for the defensive attitude and and face palms, it was a simple enough question. Some people prefer to consider the options rather than blindly following like sheep. It's difficult to make a comment, be it good or bad without consider the options and consequences. The "lack of cost to the City fans" could well be debatable.

Any grown ups able to give an example of a similar development or if one doesn't exist some demonstration of need?

Sportcity in Manchester is the closest example to what's proposed, though it's obviously much bigger as it has the velodrome etc. The Olympic village will obviously be a much bigger version still.

Sorry mate! I thought you were being arsey! It could well be that a financial study of the whole project shows it to not be viable....but I don't think Terry Geraghty has the right attitude. The Allams (and their investors?) will be taking the financial risk. If the KC is kept as a separate entity, then any failure should not affect City (i.e. losing its home). The city could benefit from a showground which could host the Fair; it could also be used for a number of other purposes.

    Pax!

Allams and their investors losing money would certainly impact on City.

Move the fair to Melton, plenty of grounds there. Let the sports village happen Hull City council and that would attract far more than a million once a week fair goers. The plans the Allams have look great. Just imagine. Go for a work out and swim in the morning, then food, afternoon football and a night at the pictures and or skating arena in the evening.
Park your car all day for FREE if you use the village. Its a no brainer. Get is built NOW.

Why so? Allam Marine is separate from Hull City; Hull City is separate from the SMC.

Any developments at Allam Marine will be unaffected by what goes on at City or the SMC. And vice versa. The Allams are businessmen and will no doubt set up the equivalent of 'Chinese walls' between their various spheres of business. It's only natural. OLM would most likely do the same....

But - this is a forum for debate: people come up with ideas/statements which others think are stupid, or pessimistic, or wildly optimistic, or far-seeing, or.....

Seems the council are more interested with sitting down and talking to the Fair traders than with the Allams.

"We are going to sit down with the Showmen's Guild in November, after this year's fair, to see how we can improve it. They are quite keen on doing that."

Great idea, we move to Melton, along with Hull FC. Then Geraghty and the traders can vote to expand the fair by knocking down the KC Stadium.
    Muppets.

OK, 1 million - a figure plucked from the air - come into the city for the fair for one week. How much of the revenue stays in the city?

Outside Walton Street we have Anlaby Road and Spring Bank West. Both ends of Walton Street look very run down.
What would generate growth and investment in this area? A Sports Village or an improved fair?

Just move the fair, it is a dinosaur - just like Geraghty.

Terry Geraghty is a dodgy old fool who is way past his sell by date. His antic at the Hull Ice Arena are legendary. But thats another story. TG is an old fashioned stick in the mud, stuck in his bad ways just like this council. Hull City Councils have never had any vision they just plod along simply dojng the basics. Everyone can see the advantages
of the sports village @ walton street except the clowns who make the final decisions. Its clear for all to see what a difference the Kc has made to the area and to have the sports village in place would be more than a breath of fresh air.
City back in the PL, a bigger capacity KC and the whole area would boom. Its a vision that is the norm in such places like the USA CANADA and yet we have to wait whilst stagnant dodderers make there minds up.

How about something really radical here ? PUT IT TO THE VOTE ? THE TAX PAYERS VOTE ? LET US CHOOSE FOR A CHANGE. <party><party> :emoticon-0150-hands

Not a good idea to put it to a vote costs too much and they are elected to make these type of decisions for us its obvious to many that it should be a easy decision and we should not have to vote plus there is a good chance of it getting turned down at vote dependant on the language used and the actual question that is to be voted on

I agree with what you are saying but alot of non sports fans want the KC off the councils books. The radio phone ins and such have shown that to be true. Yes they should be making the decisions on our behalf but they dont. TG comments just highlight that fact. Talking with the showmen in november ? whats that got to do with anything ?
If Tg and his labour clowns cannot see the benefit of the sports village then they are not fit for office. At least my
conscience is clear as i did not vote for them but the LibDems were no better. Put it to the vote the peoples Vote.

How ever it's structured, the Allams having less money has to have an impact on City.

Why can he not speak to the showmen earlier at one of the other places the travelling fair is I wonder. And also are you sure enough people would bother to vote for something that should be straight forward?

If he's speaking to the showmen, can he ask them if they'd mind cutting back on the shop-lifting in the city centre during fair week? <whistle>

I think the Allams want the football club to be self sufficient and to stand on its own 2 feet.

Their huge wealth has obviously helped the club tremendously in terms of the huge debts they've paid off, but I think we will be much less dependant on their financial input in the coming years.

Yes it should mate and thats my anger of it all. Why do Hull City Councils make such an issue of anything straight forward ? The sports village is good for everyone full stop. Selling the KC brings in 40million to council coffers.
