These multi million pound deals are complex, the headline number is only part of it, the payment schedule, initial down payment, settling of any loyalty payments due, agents fees etc etc all have to be ironed out after the initial offer is put forward. In this case they obviously accepted the initial approach but then changed their minds, maybe due to fan backlash and wanting to be seen to be strong? No idea, but it's not #standard.
