Is there any point to this? For the last few days you've given nowt but one line replies, say what you mean man. Man U's debt is manageable because of their massive revenues. It's got nowt to do with the point I made at all.
Everything I say has a point and I always say what I mean, I just didn't think I'd have to spell everything out. In this case the point is that debt doesn't mean a club needs rescuing.
Well why didn't you just say that. I'm ****ing fed up. Everything is irritating me. Can't be chewed spending my evening playing cryptic ****ing games. Edit: Sorry Smug, I'm being passive aggressive.
You said, "Debatable. we're riddled with debt. He hasn't rescued us yet." I said, "Don't Man Utd owe about a billion or summat?" If you can't make such a simple connection mate, just ignore my posts. I'm obviously saying debt doesn't mean a club needs rescuing, either SAFC or Man Utd.
I like him. Given us a decade in the premier league. Can't help but feel he's not learning from his mistakes quickly enough though.
He's been great for the club, but he has ran his course imo. I think the next step for the club to progress is to big for him. Hopefully he sells, and ES can stroll into the sun with his head held high, and a big thanks from everyone.
What happened to the Sakho and Santon deals ?, we are apparently in for Benteke ! and Liverpool want £30 m, but I suppose a big club like C pal will beat us to him hehe.
Agree Smug. He could have gone a number of times, what he would have lost relative to what he owns is a snip.. The fact that he stays is enough for me. ; agree he doesn't spend mega bucks. I actually believe he tried to get Moyes past 5 managers (it's not like that was a long time ago due to the annual manager change). My Guess is Everton or Man Utd to Sunderland was a step down, Then he wanted to try is hand abroad - fair play. The last time he was approached he admitted he thought we where done for so stayed in Spain.. My point is, maybe if Moyes is his man, he may just free up that extra bit of cash that he was reluctant to do in the past. Will be interesting to see what happens. So for now I'm with Ellis and will make my judgement on this (season (s) x 2 or 3 transfer windows.
I don't think he's in it for profit or to line his own pockets. I think its out of genuine sporting interest. But I'll go back to something I posted a few months ago- some terrible decisions have been made at boardroom level. I'd have thought that Martin Bain's appointment might have remedied that but the dragging of the heels over M'Vila makes me think that Ellis's hand is still on the tiller. In my opinion, he's been fine in keeping the club afloat but he needs to hand overall control over to someone who knows football. Short doesn't know football but he's too stubborn to admit it.
I assume you are referring to the clubs last accounts. If you have ever run a business you know their are reasons for showing a loss. SAFC is a complex business, in order to avoid tax I am willing to bet the losses have been carefully calculated. I am also willing to bet Shorts personal investments are repayable directors loans or company loans. This gives him a tax advantage if/when he sells or he wants to take money out. The clubs finances are fine and we have Short to thank in that regard.
Look at what? You won't find the answer in the published accounts. Ask this question, what did Short pay for the club and what is it worth now? That is the real answer.
I don't need to see the accounts, we've published our debt and we can't compete with the clubs around us on spending. More than enough to convince me we're not in a good state.
Why are we in such a financial mess? Forgive me if im being slow here but 10years worth of Premiership money equates to about a billion pounds plus Sponsorship money ,ticket sales, merchandise sales and any transfer fees weve recieved for our players. Minus 10 years of buying players plus wages and running costs surely we should still be quids in still? Unlike alot of teams we actually own our stadium so we havent got that debt hanging over us!
Very different chairman, long view or short, no two people are the same. The answer is yes, probably. A poll about Martin Bain at his previous clubs would be interesting, I think he fits well with the previous boardroom appointments, and do not expect he will fare any better.
I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to Short, I like the idea of trying to get us running as a sustainable club but all of the chopping and changing particularly of the manager and director of football system is something that has kept us near the foot of the table fighting relegation. I don't really buy into the idea that we haven't invested decent money in the squad while Short has been at the club, in recent seasons there have been plenty of signings around the £10 million mark as well as the cheaper signings, unfortunately some of them have been disappointments. Obviously no signings yet this summer and the transfer market has gone crazy making £10 million look like pennies but I'm sure that will change by the end of the month. His constant chopping and changing of managers and the director of football system is where I think he's let us down, he's surrounded himself with people who seem incapable of running a football club Byrne, Di Fanti, Congerton and probably more that I don't know about. I'm hoping now that we've got Moyes in that we can have someone in charge for a few years who can build us up and establish us towards the top half (to be fair I think big Sam would have done the same), lets just hope that this Bain guy is more able than the previous idiots that we've had conducting transfer negotiations.
Byrne and Di Fanti were useless but Congerton was doing a good job. In my opinion the DoF model was fine, its just Short didn't let it operate properly, allowing Poyet to override it in order to sign his favourites from Brighton.
I'm not saying that a DoF model can't work mate but with the people we had at the club (managers, the DoF themslef etc) it just didn't work for us, there was no clear direction of how the club was going to move forward, no clear brand of football we were going to play and our transfer policy under this system was erratic so it failed massively. I'm not really sure why Congerton would be seen as a success to be honest, pretty sure it was him who oversaw the whole Alvarez fiasco and I don't remember him being too good at negotiating good transfer deals.
