Looking on the BBC Website - this is our current squad. I never realised how bare we look at the moment.

Moyes needs to do some wheeling and dealing pretty sharpish.. . There's a few I wouldn't even keep as squad players IMO.

Just wondered your thoughts on the squad and what we need. (probably obvious to most)

Goalkeepers (Keep both and add a 3rd choice , Old boy with experience or possibly a youth player)
    1. 13 Pickford - Must Keep
    2. 25 Mannone - Keep
Defenders (add a RB and CB and bring back DeAndre Yedlin)
    1. 2 Jones - Let Go but back up if no replacement. (That would worry me)
    2. 3 van Aanholt - Must Keep
    3. 15 Kaboul - Must Keep
    4. 16 O'Shea - Keep
    5. 23 Koné - Must Keep but may go so possible a replacement required.
Midfielders (Need a few acquisitions here) and bring back Yann M'Vila
    1. 4 Bridcutt - Let go
    2. 6 Cattermole - Must Keep
    3. 7 Larsson - Keep Squad player
    4. 8 Rodwell - Unsure, maybe give a chance under Moyes - Make or break up to January
    5. 14 Jordi Gómez - Let go
    6. 22 Khazri - Must Keep
    7. 27 Kirchhoff - Must Keep
    8. 28 Mavrias - Let go
    9. 30 Buckley - Let go
Forwards (Bring in one more Quality striker)
    1. 9 Borini - Keep
    2. 17 Lens - Keep
    3. 18 Defoe - Must Keep
    4. 41 Watmore - Must Keep

Youth don't need to be registered. You'd think we could scrape together at least 20 seniors we actually want. A bit thin is an understatement. We've only got 14 players we actually want. Scary.

plenty room left in the squad then for new signings.

i wonder if that was why Moyes was giving the young uns a run out in the pre-season to promote them into the first team squad?

They've been part of the preseason from the off before Moyes joined. Also, They don't need to be registered to play first team football so gaps in the squad don't need to be left for them.

"A bit thin"? That's ****ing anorexic, when you and Hull play each other it could be a 5-a-side kickabout. The positive side to this is that you've not got the chaff kicking around that you used to have draining the wages so there's a lot more capacity to sign players. With Sam that would have been grand but the very idea that the board (or whoever) are debating on the M'Villa deal given that list of players and the amount of money coming in...

You need a GK, 3 defenders, 2 midfielders (Rodwell and Larsson to keep then M'Villa plus 1 other) and a striker (Lens and Borini to keep). Some may be from the youth team but you've got to hope promotions are made on merit rather than necessity. Your youth have done excellently in recent years but it is a big step up and not many have come through into the ranks so far that I've noticed. You'll get in a few loans, you always do, so probably only actually NEED 3-4 players permanently and then prayers for no injuries.

Defence is a problem, especially if Kone goes.

What's all the worry about, we have 11 days before season starts and I guarantee someone going to mention 30 days or so of window.

Personally am fed up of checking for news of transfers, presently we are in awful position

Moyes has a good record of giving youth opprtunities - I'm clinging to the hope that some of our youngsters shine otherwise .....struggle big time for a while

Could be a possibility... I think he's one of those in favour of giving youth a chance; might be wrong though... We'll see...

This is not worry, it's merely pointing out we are thin on the ground and we need some reinforcements.. Also an attempt to open up a sensible debate about our squad. What's lacking, what do we really need, even who we may get..
Personally I am far from worried and looking forward to the new season as always no matter what unfolds.

Just checked the Sunderland website, First team is same as above with Adam Matthews too.... You're right hard to believe we made it through the season. So i guess we need about 6 players in at least.

Squad wise its utter ****e. Team wise is not far of being decent.

But you cant last a season with a wafer thin squad.

Agreed, by the looks of that we could do with (in an ideal world)...

    A third choice GK
    A first choice RB
    A backup RB/LB
    A back up CB
    A first choice DM (M'Villa)
    A first choice AM
A first/second choice CF, dependant on formation.

    And that's before sales.

    :emoticon-0119-puke:

That list is such a damning statement of where the club is at and how it's been ran. ****ing disgrace that that's the state of our squad.

Jesus fellas... you think you have problems.!!!!!!... we have 7 count them.. first team players available for our opener.. !!!

Add to that, no manager, no first team coach (sacked yesterday)..

If ever there was a 'no ****ing idea' its Hull City... at least you have a board that cares and will support you...
