I am on a family holiday in the Wicklow mountains for a week from Saturday. So the game kicks off at midday on Sunday, but I think Irish licensing laws says pubs don't normally open until 1230 on Sundays? Is there anywhere in Dublin or Wicklow that will be showing the game including opening early enough to be able to see the whole first half? Also would need to allow 14 year olds in to watch. Otherwise we will be watching it on Sky Go in the house we are staying in assuming the Wi-Fi is up to it.
Think you might be out of luck with that one. While you may hear locally about a bar that does an early lock-in generally speaking they are few and far between and probably wouldn't be the sort of places you would want to bring your kids.
Hi So spz..you are not on a donkey walking or caravan holiday perchance...I spent a week in the Wicklow mountains doing that...great fun.
There is a meet-up in Lott's Bar near H'Penny bridge in Dublin City....I'm assuming they have a concession to get us in but not serve till 12:30...otherwise I'll be putting my feet in in my Wicklow abode Check facebook event
Renting a house near Balinaclash for a week with the family. I am hoping the weather will be kind to us (fingers crossed).
Thanks for the heads-up.I have been there before, but not for a good few years. Will see if I can get the alarm set and swing it to be in Dublin in time to watch the game. Midday on a Sunday is not a great time to schedule a game. 1330 Sunday games are bad enough.
You can get lucky...due another good spell. That part is fairly quiet (the 'clash). Just checked that Dublin meet-up has access as below. If you're not going to Dublin you could drive a few miles further to Aughrim and try Lawless' Hotel they are bound to be open (you might ring before hand). They have good Sunday grub for the family and it is a pretty little town. I'm nearer Greystones and the DART train for access to town for the Match. I'm actually going from there to Tallaght to see the Irish 'NFL' final which is on at 3pm. Lisa Hillman: Yes but we are going into the lounge bar and thats open from 10.30 , I have okayed everything with Dave the landlord , hope to see you there ☺ Like · Reply · 1 · 30 July at 12:33
Good luck with your holiday Spzranger. Wicklow is an absolutely gorgeous part of the country. They call it the garden of Ireland. I am sure you will have a great time there. If the weather is kind to you, try to get to the beach at Brittas Bay. Just had a quick look at the forecast as it seems quite dry, I also recommend a visit to Glendalough. The village is an monastic settlement from the 6th century and is set in a valley surrounded by mountains and two lakes. There is a good visitor centre there. If you decide to go to the Lotts Bar meet up, it is right in the centre of Dublin near the Ha'Penny Bridge. The nearest car park is in Jervis Street which is only a 2-3 minute walk from the pub. Dublin has a lot of one way streets so use a sat nav if you have one. If you need any further advice, just let me know.
Thanks Finglas. I have been to Glendalough with the Mrs (who is from Westmeath) before but that was 20+ years ago so it will be great to take the kids there. I don't remember a visitor centre there last time, so I imagine that's been built since. As you say it is a very beautiful spot. Probably go to Powerscourt again as well. Not been to any of the Wicklow coast south of Dalkey before, so Brittas Bay is definitely on the list too. Thanks for the parking tip. Sat Nav is packed. Hopefully we can make it into Dublin for Lotts bar then!
Good man Spzranger. The Lotts Bar is 50 metres from the Ha'Penny Bridge. If you cross the bridge, the Temple Bar area is on the far side of the river. It is a bit touristy but it is nice to stroll through there and listen to the music coming from the pubs. The Lotts is very kid friendly and they do good food. Enjoy your trip.
