If McCormack wants to come he has to hand in a transfer request. This surley would give Fulham the kick they need to sell.

But they'd still be within their rights to hold on to him until this dumbass £15m release clause is activated?

I would argue, yes we do. I think Klose and any of the other 3 would form a very good champ defense, add in settled FB's and it could be very good, may be as good as any in the division.
as for if Klose got injured. No one could be as confident if they lose their best player in any one position. Would Brighton be as confident without Dunk, Derby without Keogh or wednesday without Lees or Loovens? No, but could any of them call upon such experienced and high quality (at championship level!) replacements? I think that at this level the defense (Assuming Olsson isn't sold) is a relative strength at least in terms of personnel. Can AN get them defending well whilst carrying a team threat going forwards? I think so, we did in our last promotion season. The only position we despirately need to add in is goal scoring striker. And then replacements for those that might leave, i.e Olsson and Brady.

    Bah!

I agree, General. We had difficulty recruiting a quality CB when we were in the PL and it would be harder still. The 5 we have are certainly good enough and deep enough for this league. It's a quality goal-scoring striker that we need. I believe AN when he says that we are close to a deal for McCormack and the negotiation is now about how payments will be made. Time will tell. though.

It's beginning to feel like we're having our chain yanked and they're either trying to put us and other would be buyers off, or give maximum disruption to our chances of hitting the ground running. Perfectly within their rights to do so, but blooming fustraiting for any one City related.

    Bah!

Yes, but it just says that I want to leave and don't want to play for you anymore.

It would help move things along.

Apparently we've told Wet Sham to up their offer to £5m for Olsson, still seems very low to me! He's a consistent performer who has just come back from some good performances in the Euro's, i'd have thought we could get about £8m in this current market.

One year left on his contract is the only reason I can see for the relatively low price. At 28 he's a good age. i'd be disappointed to lose him, but if he is on record as wanting to leave if a PL suitor comes in and the club accept that, then £5M would be a good price for WHU I think £6M+ should be our target though. Just hope that Neil has someone in mind who can replace him. Whittaker and Toffalo are definitely not adequate for the season.

    Bah!

I'd hope we wouldn't let Olsson leave until we have signed a replacement for him. Anybody have any ideas about possible LBs?

I think you'll find Toffolo will be sufficient this season <whistle>

I do rate Toffolo and think he could be Championship level but we could do with an experienced 25 year old who could slot in straight away with Harry as back-up. Whittaker is back-up shared between two positions, especially with Martin currently injured.

I see our side slowly being pulled to pieces with very little except for McCormack as an incomer.

I'm not panicking but surely and hopefully we have more going on than just that. Especially if Brady and Olsson leave.

AN has spoken of 3 possibilities currently going on and that he hopes at least one of those will be in before Blackburn.

That's by no means a dead cert. Not for £15m anyway.

I have a feeling in my water that this deal to bring McCormack in will stall.
£15m is a lot for a club like ours. Too much, unless we sell Brady and Olsson and use the proceeds.
We'll end up going with what we have or getting some cheapskate unknown back up striker just before deadline day, neither of which would be acceptable if the club harbours any genuine ambition of having a decent (top 6) season :emoticon-0106-cryin

I agree Cromer - I wonder if AN has dusted off the file marked "Plan B" yet ?

I'm fairly sure that Neil mentioned the situation after a recent friendly and suggested that we have other irons in the fire. That's of course exactly what he's going to say, he's not going to come out and say it's McCormack or nothing, but hopefully those other options are reasonably advanced.
