Max Gradel has revealed Leeds have yet to offer him a new contract as he mulls over his future.

The £5million-rated winger is wanted by West Ham, Fulham, Swansea and Newcastle after his 18-goal haul last season.

Gradel, 23, wants to fire Leeds back into the Premier League, but is out of contract next summer and said: "I can't sign a deal when there is no deal.

"I've been waiting for a contract but I haven't been offered a new deal yet.

"My wish was to do it as early as possible, like, last January, but unfortunately it's not down to me, it's down to the club. I've said I want to take this club to the Premier League, but you can't guarantee what's going to happen.

"Every player is working hard on the pitch because he has a target and that target is not just to play for Leeds, but to play in the top league.

"It would be great if it was Leeds, but I want to play in the Premier League."

Leeds fans have seen Jermaine Beckford, Bradley Johnson and Neil Kilkenny leave on free transfers because they were not tied down to new deals.

They fear the same will happen with prize pair Gradel and Robert Snodgrass, whose contract ends in 2013, unless they get promotion.

Gradel, whose side open up their Championship campaign at Southampton on Saturday, added: "It's a strange and difficult situation, but I just want to focus on playing.

"It's a big challenge to follow on from last season, but my aim is to score more than 18 goals.

"I will have more pressure, but that doesn't worry me. I had a good season but will try to do better."

Seemed to play well against us, Leeds players reckon hes a bit of a 'trickster'... Thats what they said on Soccer AM anyway, but he, as with any player has his ups and downs... for 5 mil? It could be someone worse. I'd say yeah... But only just! :D

He was good against us but then again I would have been the way our defence played. The last player we signed who played well against us was Perch so it means nothing. I think he'd be worth a punt on the cheap though.

Seems like he's taken some PR lessons off JB on what to say to get yourself a move out of your club.

He'd be a good buy though imo, and he seems to be the same mould of player the AP is trying to fill our squad with.

    Definitely worth a punt.
Can fill the attacking role behind Ba with the likes of Ben Arfa and Marveux.

I'd assume if we were to buy him, it would be to play on the right

    That's what I mean.

Not in a CAM role but him and Marveux on the flanks.

I'd take him as back-up for HBA behind the striker. He looked good in that position whenever I've seen him.

    Hi guys, Fulham fan here.

We're interested in Gradel too, I thought £5m for a player in last year of contract at Leeds a bit pricey - is he worth that sort of money? Did he play on the wing against you or as 2nd striker?

Good luck for season - and talking of Leeds - look on the bright side - you could have Ken Bates instead of MA ;)

If were throwing 5mil around I'd rather have an attempt on Jeffren from Barca, weren't Bolton close to getting him after having a 5mil bid accepted?

It's a yes from me, can't guarantee he'd be that much better than Routledge though.

He played on the left wing for the vast majority of last season with occasional cameos up front, on the right and in 'the hole'. Can use either foot and his best assets are his skill, pace and willingness to do the ****work tracking back and closing down. Many of his goals tend to come from ragging a fullback and then slotting it into the far corner. His crossing and passing are reasonable, though that tends to be Snodgrass' forte on the other side. There's no doubt Gradel could do well in the top division, but Leeds have already turned down an offer from West Ham and I've always maintained that I'd be really shocked if we let him or Snodgrass leave before submitting a new contract offer to them.

As for the Routledge comparison, look at their goalscoring records in the Championship if you think they're the same standard. Gradel: 18/38; Routledge: 11/47.
