It's the clinging onto the distant past that's pathetic ...... the games and the girlfriend were great

 

Personally I think its a little embarrassing to be celebrating something we won 50 years ago when other teams have won it a few times since then.

Can you imagine if someone suggested it in Brazil or Germany? They'd be like...which one? We've won it 3 times in the last 50 years!!

Why do we keep harping on about past victories when we should be more focussed on future ones.

 

Cos history is important imo.

 

Of course it is. So is perspective.

 

Soon as I read that the rest was history..

I was 8 years old ffs, it seemed like the whole nation was watching..

 

If it was Luxembourg then fair enough ............ but England make out they're a superpower and one of the best leagues in the world

 

Great game, great result, great days that followed. Hasn't been repeated since so celebrating some great memories is what it is all about for me.

How the media is choosing to do it now is maybe an indication of changes made in fifty years. Ask most Englishmen about '66 and Mackems about '73 and they will remember that day.

 

I do believe RAF Leconfield was the first place in Britain to house the U2 spy plane.
