At first I thought it was Peter Shilton, however as he never played for us and on the goal keeper theme could it be Sandy McLaughan, keeper during the mid sixties and the kids look like their wearing 60s clothing.

Late 1960's/early 70's by that parka, I had one. He looks like Brendan foster he came to Sunderland you know so could be him training or could be Bobby moncur . Is that Thompson road park in the back ground ? the bloke behind looks like terry hibbet Newcastle. Go into tools in internet options and go to 400% zoom to get better view.

He does look like Brendan Foster.
Can't be Gary Moore, he played lead guitar in Thin Lizzy.

He has the same face shape as Johnny Bollands, but I agree with Monty987 that the Parka looks later. Also, all-white outfits were considered distinctly inappropriate for English mud until Revie introduced it to Leeds in the 'sixties. (The traditional Leeds shirt was similar to the classic Arsenal/Aston Villa design, but yellow shirts with blue collars and sleeves).

Looks like Dick Malone to me, but what is Rory McIlroy doing in the background?

    Not Superdick.

My first thought was Pat Jennings, before you said he was a Sunderland player.
    Are you sure about this?

Where did the picture come from? Any clues there?.

The picture looks like it was taken in that back lane opposite the New Derby pub.
