i always thought wenger was going to convert sanchez into a central striker, he is a good finisher, and quite quick, whether he has the ability to play up there I dont know. The price of strikers at present is crazy, 2-3 years ago some great strikers were costing 30-40 million, and we can afford that sort of money, now it seem these strikers have doubled in price, im not sure we can afford to spend 70 - 80 million on one player, its a hell of an amount, it is almost like we are back to square one, only a few clubs can afford to spend that sort of money on a player, and it seems we are not one of them.

What the f*ck would be wrong with signing Mahrez? Amazing player and would strengthen a position we're weak in. We have far too many central midfielders and not enough proper width with the only exception being Alexis. Just because we need a striker (and how), doesn't mean we can afford to ignore our other deficiencies.

Mertesacker out injured for 5 months... Pretty sure we'll get a CB in, just probably another £10m special

Lyon confirm we've had a £29m bid rejected this morning.

I have to say I'm no expert on him, but he doesn't seem in the same class as the other strikers who have been moving (or rumoured to move) this summer - Ibra, Higuain, Benzema, Lukaku ect

The 'other' strikers were either too expensive or wanted to go elsewhere.
In spite of claiming to have money to spend Wenger still won't compete in the market.
Same old story, we will end up with what may be left or nothing at all.

How are we weak in his position?
Mahrez has played most his career as a AMF or on the wing as WF - he's not an old fashioned winger. Essentially he's an attacking midfielder.
This would be the ONE position we are certainly NOT weak in. Ozil, Carzorla, Ramsey, Wilshere, Chamberlain, Sanchez and the breakthrough Iwobi all occupy similar roles.

The squad is starting to resemble the post Henry Arsenal side. Adebayor as our main forward, RVP constantly injured but Fabregas, Hleb, Rosicky etc.. all creating loads of chances. The **** thing about supporting Arsenal over the last 10+ years is the Boss just makes the same mistakes over and over again. Over accumulation of the same kinds of players is one of those. The best Arsenal sides had firepower something we distinctly lack these days.

We need a World class forward. We don't need Mahrez. If we spend £40 million on another AMF do you really think we will be buying the striker we need?!.. because we won't.

Its not really just a money thing. Wenger will happily spend £40+ million on a midfielder.

£29m doesn't seem particularly realistic in the current market

Mahrez notwithstanding is there any reason Arsenal haven’t approached Payet? If you’re looking for an attacking mid (which Riyad is) then surely he fits the bill? he is London based and French – what more does Wenger need.

FFS Really? We can add all the ****ing attacking midfielders in Europe and we still won't win the league without sorting out our CB/CF positions.

Bear, I know where he plays, just happen to think we're very weak with our wide players. I'd not have him central but out on the left/right rotating with Alexis. He showed last season how devastatingly effective he can be so what's wrong with wanting a piece of that? We have plenty who can "do a job" there but is that what we want? Santi and Jack have no business being in that position and I think you waste the best part of Aaron's attributes when out there. In the few games AOC has manged out wide he looked shot of confidence.

Besides, not like we don't have the money to get both him, a CB AND a striker. Why limit ourselves. Spent almost 10 years living like paupers so we could afford a stadium which would allow us to compete at the highest level and now we have it we...save our money.

Higuain confirmed, they actually paid the full £75m.. He's a player I would have liked but that really is an insane price for him

With the increase in TV money in the Prem and the money players can get from China, I think we are going to see a lot more insane transfer fees...

We probably don't have that kind of money. We've spent £30 Million on Xhaka - lets say we spend another 30-40m on Mahrez.. you think there's still money left for a TOP striker and CB?

40 million on Mahrez? I'm betting 50 million would get us Aubamayang. Who would you rather have in this squad?

A few nutcases online seem to actually believe we have like £200m to spend but thats clearly just fiction.

Don't get me wrong I would take Mahrez at Arsenal in a heartbeat but I'm soo sick of watching us play without a real finisher. Striker HAS to be a priority.

I doubt Wenger see's it that way though. He seems to prefer midfielders to anything else.

So you think Juve will be spending £25m of that to pay Pogba's agent fee then?
