Interesting that with the Euros players returning to the squad, Cantwell, Efete and Ramsay have dropped back down to the U21s. That's not surprising really, but it suggests that the Murphys, Toffolo, Thompson, Godfrey, McGrandles and Morris have stayed with the senior squad for tomorrow's game. Whether any of the Euros players will take part tomorrow may be a factor in that, but it's interesting all the same. Apparently the Hungarian side were only allowed two long range efforts on goal in the whole match. Great result for the Yoof then!
I'd like to see Morris feature in todays friendly, give him a chance to show what he could offer, especially with the Murphs on each wing
I thought Morris looked good in the team that won the FA Youth Cup. I also thought Wilshire looked good for Arsenal reserves when we played them at Carrow Road several seasons ago, so what do I know???
News from the Austrian training camp. http://www.canaries.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/norwich-city-austria-midweek-arrivals-3196284.aspx
Reports coming through that Rusty might miss the start of the season with a back spasm. Bit tough for him but it does mean that hopefully we will start with the strongest CB pairing of Klose and Bennett.
Good job we signed Turner up for a contract extension. He's been sent off in a pre-season friendly, ffs!!
Norwich 2 - 1 Ruban Kazan TEAM: Ruddy 7; Pinto 7, Turner 5 (Ramsay), Klose 8, Whittaker 7; Mulumbu 7, Howson 7, Naismith 8; Canos 7 (Odjidja-Ofoe), Andreu 6, Jerome 7 Turner sent off for 2 yellows, neither of which looked worthy of a yellow. Actually he was replaced by Ramsay who moved to LB and Whittaker to CB (where he did a good job). Very impressed with this match compared to the Dukla Prague one. City played with pace and crisp passing using a 4-3-3 formation against quality opposition. Excellent ball by Whittaker up to Jerome for the first goal. My first glimpse of Canos and he looked very lively with excellent movement and good ball control. He also tracked back very effectively when the ball was lost and looks very promising indeed. Jerome worked hard up front and took his goal well. Naismith was very lively with good touches and passing and scored the second goal after exchanging passes with Jerome and then turning his man to drive a crisp shot into the far corner with the Keeper stranded at the near post. Howson and Mulumbu also worked hard throughout and the latter was quite a dominant presence throughout. Except when they were caught by a razor-sharp breakaway in the first half, the defence looked solid and in control. Ruddy had no chance with the goal, but otherwise looked solid as well.
Not sure what happened to Turner, remember him having one good season with us. But personally I wouldn't wish any NCFC player to play badly in hope they don't start a game, I'm much rather Turner and everyone to be playing well to make the squad more solid.
He's very error prone and way too slow and clumsy. I really wish we released him. We already have Bassong.
Turner is probably our 5th choice CB - a precaution against injuries methinks. Martin is currently out with back spasms so Turner started today because Bennett and Bassong played in the previous match and Klose needed a partner today. I doubt he will start many matches this season.
Off to catch the bus in just over an hour and head to the Queen of Iceni for a pre match steak and chips washed down with a couple of pints ready for tonight's friendly. Hope to see some of the youngsters given some match time. I'll do a quick match report tomorrow. COYY!!!! ☺
