can any light be shed to explain this (apparent) turnaround in his position at the club. To go from starting the majority of pre-season games to this is just bizarre. What exactly has gone on?
From the little I know, I still think there is hell of a lot more going on. I think the club also have that thought....
It is funny how a squad number literally can tell a story. I hope and wish that we are reading too much into this and that squad number means nothing. It really would be a shame to see Rob go. But him getting no.44 and Hamer getting no.1 does tell you all you need to know for the time being.
This doesn't make any sense, if he is definatly going why give him a squad number, and if he isn't to give him a number higher than Nick Pope's seems quite disrespectful. According to his twitter he definatly doesn't want to go which could mean we have a disgruntled keeper on our books for a while, personally if i was him I'd feel that the club really don't want me anymore and start wondering where I could be more appreciated!
Think we have to give him a squad number to maintain the pretence until any deal is announced, or potentially they want to give Hamer some practice and Rob's going to start on Saturday (though this wouldn't make a lot of sense). It's all a bit odd and doesn't feel very Charlton-ish, but the bottom line is if we have had a decent bid for him and want to accept it, but don't feel he'd want to go without suitable encouragement, making him #44 is a damn good way of giving him a message. I really hope that isn't it because I feel he deserves better (being one of our 2 longest serving players alongside Waggy!!). If we didn't have a bid come in for him, then playing him in the pre-seasons ahead of Sullivan doesn't make any sense at all.
Maybe it's his waistline? An odd situation, I suppose it might have been awkward playing Sullivan vs his old club, but playing a keeper you're about to sell in all the key games is strange
It says in the SLP today Elliot has not agreed new terms despite lengthy talks since the summer. It seems Powell seems to want to him to make a longer commitment but looks like he is holding out for more dosh and only has a year left on his contract.

I heard today that the Whammies want Elliot as back up keeper, but he's unsure......money talks though eh
Welcome afrojaxx! The more the merrier on here. My heart agrees with you 100%. My head says that if someone wants to part with that sort of money for a player that to be brutally honest is not in good shape and hasn't had an outstanding run-in to an absolutely vital season, we need to be listening.
Don't know why he's such a legend, Randolph in his time was better. Good luck to Hamer and Sullivan and good bye Elliot.
Randolph peformed far better when he came in during Elliot's injury. Other GKs didn't get much of a chance or were on loan so didn't stay long enough. Elliot was at fault for many goals I saw at the Valley last season and the team has a better chance albeit slim of promotion without him. Good luck to the new GKs, farewell Elliot.
Sad it came to this- but let's get behid Hamer or suli. As for Hamer- 20 clean sheets a couple seasons back in a promotion winning brentford team... That's impressive!!
Have to disagree- Elliot hasn't been consistent since March 2010. Lack of competition and monthly loans ensured his starting position.
I haven't heard the new defence is any better or the new defenders are any better from fans who've been to the odd pre-season friendly. Francis was one of the better players who got so much undeserved stick. Still 4 goals conceded against Millwall, partly due to the defence but mainly GK errors. I fully support Sullivan and Hamer.
