Big Sam due in court this afternoon

By way of minor complication Allardyce is due to be away from Sunderland’s training ground again on Tuesday to give evidence at Snaresbrook crown court relating to an alleged luxury Christmas hamper swindle. It is alleged Allardyce and some of his former West Ham United players were conned out of thousands of pounds.

I agree entirely. I just want the situation resolved so that the club can get on and go in whichever direction the man in charge wants to take us. If that means giving Sam the chop, then so be it.

I don't really understand the messianic status some people want to ascribe to him. In my eyes he's a good football manager but there are plenty of football managers out there who are equally as good or better. Just because the last four appointments haven't been up to the job, for one reason or another, doesn't mean that Sam Allardyce is the only man capable of being a moderately successful Sunderland manager.

The club needs to do what is best for the club, and if that means cutting our losses and bringing someone new in now, I'm right behind them.

Several players hinted in post-season interviews that a lack of a coherent pre-season impacted on performances/results last season. We could end up in the same boat again this season. We also clearly suffered because Dick Advocaat's heart wasn't really in it. I don't believe that a second rejection from the FA won't have some effect on Allardyce and that has the potential to impact negatively on us.

Eddie Howe and Chris Coleman. I wouldn't be happy with either of these.

I'm seriously confused by the **** fest over Eddie Howe. Have I missed something? What the **** has he ever done apart from getting Bournemouth promoted and failing miserably with Burnley?

If he is our golden hope for the future of management, then I want my ball back and I'm going home.

three men responsible for identifying the next England manager spent another day in interviews on Tuesday as they aim to present their favoured candidate to the Football Association board on Thursday.

Technical director Dan Ashworth, chief executive Martin Glenn and vice-chairman David Gill have interviewedfavourite Sam Allardyce and Steve Bruce, and are expected to speak to Eddie Howe, Jürgen Klinsmann and Glenn Hoddle before they address FA board members.

The Daily Telegraph understands that the search has been wider than the names made public and that at least one candidate, who has remained out of the spotlight, has been interviewed in the past 48 hours.

Sources would not reveal the identity of the mystery interviewee, but hinted it was not an Englishman. The FA’s No 1 choice, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, turned down the job early in the process.

So they've managed to see 2 people in three weeks with 3 more still to see. Yep. Piss is being extracted big time.

Those last few words, build resilience... unashamedly adopt the kind of psychological techniques... doesn't sound like a Bruce description to me.

Those are quotes by the way, from FA chief Martin Glenn from Sky Sports' interview.

NO TIME SCALE, STILL MORE TO SEE

We'll be kicking the season off with this unresolved at this rate. And big thanks for **** all to sky sports for not drawing attention to how this is effecting teams preparations. Football is worse than British politics.

Sam Allardyce to be confirmed as the new England manager
    james olley
    Evening Standard | 2016-07-20T17:51:00+01:00
Sam Allardyce is set to be confirmed as England’s new manager in the next few days.

Standard Sport understands the 61-year-old has won the race to succeed Roy Hodgson, who stepped down after England’s Euro 2016 exit to Iceland.

The FA has since undergone a consultation process involving many leading figures in the game including Harry Redknapp, Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard before meeting with prospective candidates over the last two weeks.

Allardyce was first to be interviewed before Hull City boss Steve Bruce met with the FA’s three-man panel, comprising vice-chairman David Gill, chief executive Martin Glenn and technical director Dan Ashworth.

The preference for an Englishman counted against USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann and although Allardyce’s style of football has divided opinion throughout his career, it is thought that the FA were drawn to his ability to impose a clear identity on teams founded on a high work-rate and defensive resilience.

Allardyce is expected to be appointed soon and will take charge of England for the first time in a friendly on September 1. The opponents have not been publicly revealed but the FA are negotiating with the Czech Republic for a fixture at Wembley. England face their opening 2018 World Cup qualifier in Slovakia three days later.

Earlier today, Glenn admitted in a BBC interview that they were “getting close” to a new appointment, adding: “The new manager's got to be someone who can inspire people to get the best out of themselves, build resilience and unashamedly adopt the kind of psychological techniques that other sports and other football teams have done.”

With Allardyce ready to depart, Sunderland are in advanced talks to name David Moyes as his replacement.

Moyes has been out of work since being sacked by Real Sociedad in November 2015 after almost exactly a year in charge. The 53-year-old went to Spain to revive his career following a disastrous ten-month spell in charge of Manchester United and he is keen to rebuild his reputation in the Premier League.

Sunderland’s agreement with Moyes has not yet been finalised but it is believed that the club’s hierarchy made contact soon after it became clear Allardyce was the FA’s preferred choice to take over England.

Good, it's boring now ....... get Moyes in and let him get some friendlies and a pre-season under his belt.

He will already know who he wants in, and out, so let's fund him and get stuck in.

I believe he's never been relegated from the Premier League <whistle>
