Great. It's not the heat. It's the humidity. 30 degrees in the Med, for example, is just bloody lovely, because there's unlikely to be anything like the level of humidity that we have here. So 30 degrees will be a bit sweaty here, but as long as you're outside, and not doing anything too strenuous, it should be fine. Wish we would have more days like it.
Up here it was 30 today (my room thermometer said 32 and it was hotter outside.) My room's thermometer says 30 now.........at midnight and I have all the little "top" windows open. Not having the side windows open at this time of night because they are like small doors. It is quite nice outside though. Probably low 20s. Weather forecast says 35 possible tomorrow over the Channel Islands so that means it will be that here too. Always a few degrees higher than the Beeb says it will be and I live on top of the hill so we're closer to the sun as well
I wouldn't say that. Depends how close to the med or sea you are. When I go to the wife's hometown of Palmela in Portugal it is only a few miles up the road from Mourinho's hometown of Setubal and therefore a few (probably 10 miles) from the sea. You can sea the Sado estuary from her parent's apartment and in the morning there is that usual haze we get on a hot day which disappears pretty quickly but then you are roasted alive and then steamed for good measure. She thinks I'm being rude and disrespectful for sleeping so much in Portugal but I'm just so knackered from the heat.
What do people make of this Victoria Beckham furore that sparked up because she kissed her daughter on the lips? I think Russell Kane pretty much nails it in this 2 minute clip. (I checked back a couple of pages to check this hadn't been mentioned previously, but apologies if I have missed it further back in the thread)
Very good. And of course he's right. Tbh, I wasn't actually aware of the goings on regarding VB and her child, and I'd have probably skipped it if I had seen something regarding it. To me it's a non-event because it is a non-event. A mother kisses her child on the lips. Big deal. Shows her love. But if people need to make a fuss then they really ought to take Russell Kane's advice.
Have to admit I don't know about the geography of Portugal at all well. But I'm sure you'd acclimatise very quickly if you were there all year round. But SoFrance, Italy, Greece, Sicily, generally barely ever known it to be humid even down at the coast while I've been in those places.
Love it when a plan comes together. Love Lisbon, but have used all my holiday friends up with trips there. They always want to go somewhere different. Just got a friend to agree to go for 10 days in Cascais next year....hasn't twigged it is a short train ride from Lisbon. Result!
Cascais, Monte Estoril, Sintra all around there is absolutely lovely, and even that train ride from Lisbon is beautiful.
Sintra is unbelievable....and there is one palace I haven't seen, so will definitely take a bus ride from Cascais. Here's a link in case someone is interested. http://www.sintra-portugal.com/index.html
Russia are suspending people named in the report into doping at the Sochi Olympics. Sacrificial lambs with everyone else covering their backs.
Russell Kane is one of the most sensible comedians around and although he is a remainer he does challenge things that are stupid. I remember him being on This week asking why not have grammar schools or select schools and his argument was pretty much the same as mine. That while people are screaming about it not being fair on kids that don't get selected, why is no-one asking if it is fair not to nurture gifted children. Was a very sensible segment in my view because while all children should be able to have equal access you don't get that by depriving others to level the playing field. As for the kissing on the lips bit I have no idea why this has suddenly become an issue. I kiss my 4 year old daughter on the lips. If I try to kiss her cheek she moves her head. I don't see the problem. Apart from the fact that she is 4, she is my daughter and it is entirely platonic
I have no choice. lol. When I was a kid it was Winchester and Chester every year. Now I am an adult it's f***** red hot Portugal. Much as I like Lisbon and the area around it from Lisbon down to Alentejo I am happy the kids are all at school and we can't afford to go in the summer. Unfortunately my passport lapsed 4 years ago
It's always Murdoch's fault. Except when it isn't. Which is rare. Cancel your subscription. Throw your Sky boxes in the bin as a matter of principle. Go on, you know you want to [except Fran]. And don't take them back out again. Make Murdoch a bit poorer and yourself a bit better off.

The 46-year-old woman and her three daughters - aged 14, 12 and eight - are said to have been targeted while holidaying near Laragne in Hautes-Alpes in southern France.
