But (and not meant as a dig) would better players go to Sunderland and for free to boot?

Personally: Not as long as I have a hole in my arse....The bloke is a complete dick who would be a terrible influence on our young team.

It is a good question, I don't know. But remember a player on a fee gets higher wages so its swings and roundabouts isn't it. Our profile in the league is getting better with each passing season so I don't think we will have a problem attracting players in the coming season. And with the money Short has our rumoured wage cap will increase in line with that.
So in short, no, not this season. But in the next couple, yes.

What if the owner and his assistant of said corner shop behave bizarrely (such as painting odd frontages), have no respect for themselves or their customers and ignore the standing of the shop in the local community? What if they employ a manager who enjoys a fine reputation locally and then do not allow him to manage? What if they starts getting rid of all of their best staff while at no point making the slightest attempt to explain their actions?

Would you still deny the employees their right to free speech?

Like others have said fantastic footballer but with Newcastle links and baggage would be a disaster.

Then I would expect the customers to complain and any staff to leave, free speech comes with responsibility

From the owner's point of view, if they don't like it, they can shop somewhere else!

I'm loathe to say it (feels like sacrilege), he wouldn't be a jot of bother at Sunderland. They are better run and treat their players with more respect. And they don't have to cut costs in a clandestine way or otherwise. Be a great signing for them but I think he'd have his sights set higher. He should move for his own sake and the sake of his career. He deserves better than our sorry club. (never thought I'd say that about him but hands up he has reformed and I was wrong)

What if another employee, from Spain, had done exactly the same thing and had no action taken against him at all?

What if one of the local lads from your street had become one of the best shop-keepers in the country yet he is deemed not worthy to give a pay rise to? He moves to a rival store who will pay him his worth.

What if the store manager had asked for a new contract and you refused on the grounds that although he was the leader and a major contributer to everything that goes on in the shop, his performance may well dip in years to come?

Just try to look at things through Ashleys pies.

I think some people are being a bit obtuse cyprussyd, your analogy works fine for me.

Yes I agree with you totally. Barton owes the club and management much more loyalty than he has shown and he has been a self serving prick!

I'd sack him without hesitation and frog march the twat off the premises.

Very disappointed in Barton, but funnily enough i'm not at all surprised. A leopard and its spots and all that ...!

Regardless Donkey of all of our differing views on this subject, you are bang out of order to suggest current developments are in any way similar to his misdemeanours of the past. I knew someone would end up bringing old **** into it. Your like wor lass!

I'm not for one moment sticking up for Ashley mate just trying to say there are two sides to most stories. Been divorced twice so I'm used to hearing that.

I've not been on much last few days as we've had visitors from England, can someone fill me on on what Barton's allegedly got up to down Leeds?

Forgive me if I'm being completly naive, but when has Barton been 'lied to'? Examples?

He has form for this before. He tried very hard to undermine Shearer during his brief stint and at a very important time in the club's recent history. That is leaving out all the other issues.

If you are that bothered by my stance on Barton feel free to find and read my previous posts regarding him. You will find that I have been a constant advocate that the guy had a poor attitude that would ultimately prove detrimental to the club. I argued that he should have been kicked into touch after his comments regarding "the fans should buy the club because it will go nowhere under the current owners" way back when he first threw a paddy over his failure to get the contract he wanted. His comments cross a line for any employee, whatever the industry and he has always known it. He just cannot control his ego or his mouth anymore than he used to not be able to control his fists.

The well being of the club is more important than any one player. I'll be glad when he has gone!

I think he along with the rest of the players and the fans are regularly lied to by this regime. Just the way they do things. Examples? You can't be serious, I can give you a book full from the time they took over. The most obvious would be about the 35m being reinvested in the team. In any sane mans book this inferred they would spend the money in the next window. We've had a net transfer spend of 500k this summer. Now there are agent fees and signing fees but that would struggle to get near 10m nevermind 35m. We all know where the money has gone and don't understand why they are afraid to say it. Its gone towards reducing our huge debt which is sensible. It puts us in better financial health and makes a more sellable asset (which I believe is the long term goal) The problem is when you say something different the naive tend to believe you and hold you to it (players like Barton, Jose and quite a few fans)

Not at all I thought you were referring to his past criminal behaviour. Clearly you're not. As such I don't mind at all, everyone to their own as always!
